Job Summary

The Transportation Business Line of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented and self-motivated Roadway Engineer/Project Manager for immediate employment in the Columbus, Ohio office. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in Civil Engineering specific to intersection and roadway design, highway design, pavement design, drainage design, utility coordination, and the preparation of construction documents, including plans, specifications and construction estimates.

The candidate can look forward to projects including:

  • Intersection and Interchange Improvement Plans

  • Interstate Reconstruction Plans

  • Rural Roadway Improvement Plans

  • Maintenance of Traffic Plans

  • Drainage and Erosion Control Plans

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Assists Ohio Leadership with business development and in interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating client proposals and marketing efforts

  • Assists Ohio Leadership in developing and implementing marketing strategies for targeted public sector clients and specific projects in Central Ohio

  • Plans, schedules, conducts, coordinates, and manages detailed phases of roadway engineering projects

  • Verifies that applicable codes, engineering standards and environmental commitments are being met

  • Reviews and approves scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments

  • Tracks overall financial performance of task assignments, which includes coordinating with Ohio Leadership to monitor sold time and work backlog on tasks

  • Delegates work to, mentors, trains, and supervises less experienced staff to complete assignments

  • Contacts and interacts with local public sector clients (ODOT, Cities, and Counties, etc.) in order to successfully complete assigned projects

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution

  • 10+ years of experience with an emphasis in civil engineering fields such as highway design, stormwater and multimodal transportation projects

  • Experience developing plans and specifications for ODOT, counties and municipalities

  • Must have the ability to plan and design highways/roadways and related stormwater drainage, site improvements and utilities

  • Ability to independently develop contract documents, perform calculations, write specifications, and develop estimates

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Bentley MicroStation/Geopak and experience with MS Office, Stormwater design and analysis software, and be able to work as a member of a team or perform independent work as required

  • Good interpersonal skills, good command of the English language both, verbally and written, the ability to express thoughts clearly, good time management skills, and a good attitude towards work

  • Willingness to learn to manage projects and track financial status

  • Some overnight travel may be required

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license

  • Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required and also, qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test
