Job Summary

The Buildings + Places business line of AECOM is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for its Columbus, Ohio office. This position will provide support to the engineering and design staff working on exciting and challenging facilities such as hospitals, dormitories, air terminals, data centers and laboratories across the country. This position will have the opportunity to use drafting software to create 3D models of the mechanical systems supporting the operation of these facilities. Other software tools may be utilized to size the building systems and components. A strong interest in engineering system design is required along with a desire to see the finished product in successful operation.

Mechanical design of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems as well as plumbing and fire protection for commercial and institutional facilities.

The responsibilities of this position under the direction of a professional or experienced engineer include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepares drawings using computer aided design software including Revit and AutoCAD

  • Designs heating, ventilating, air conditioning mechanical systems such as ductwork and heating/cooling piping layout and sizing

  • Designs of plumbing and fire suppression systems is a plus

  • Takes direction from more experienced mechanical engineering staff

  • Performs mechanical design calculations and standard computations such as building heating and cooling loads

  • Applies standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjusts and correlates data, recognizes discrepancies in results and follows operations through series of related detailed steps or process

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline

  • 2+ years of experience designing mechanical systems for commercial and institutional facilities. Experience to include the design of heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems

  • Experience with the following software: Revit, Carrier HAP, or Trane Trace

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong verbal presentation and communication skills

  • Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam
