Job Summary

The AECOM Transportation Business Unit is actively seeking a Highway Drainage Engineer for immediate employment in one of the three South Carolina offices including Charleston, Columbia or Greenville. The qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate progressive experience in drainage engineering for urban and rural transportation improvement projects. The incumbent can look forward to participating in the growth and development of the team.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Highway / Roadway drainage design, detailing and plan development

  • Managing drainage-related project tasks, supervising technical staff, working independently on smaller projects and working in a fast-paced team atmosphere on larger projects

  • Working in a team atmosphere on multi-disciplinary study and final design projects

  • Involvement in Design-Build projects in South Carolina

  • Preparing calculations and design reports

  • Assisting in preparing schedule and budget requirements

  • Interacting with clients to gather information and discuss project requirements

  • Interacting with multidiscipline and multi-office teams within AECOM

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field

  • 5+ years of relevant design experience in onsite and offsite drainage design and erosion control

  • Professional Engineering License in SC or able to obtain license in SC within 6 months

  • Experience working with a multi-discipline highway design team including developing drainage-related construction drawings, construction cost estimating and writing construction specifications

  • Strong written and verbal communication and organizational skills

  • Ability to work independently and with others on multiple simultaneous projects

  • Experience with commonly-used drainage design and plan production software such as Microstation, Geopak Drainage, Inroads, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, HEC-RAS, HEC-1 / HEC-HMS, HY-8, CulvertMaster

  • Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to perform highway / roadway drainage design, detailing and plan development

  • Experience with analyzing open-channel hydraulics with HEC-RAS and/or other software

  • Experience with scour analyses for bridge foundation design in accordance with FHWA guidelines

  • Experience with the analysis and design of embankment scour protection systems
