Job Summary

The Water Business Unit of AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented Surface Water Engineer for immediate employment in the Colorado Springs, CO office. The successful candidate will provide surface water modeling and design support for stormwater control structures. The position will involve working on projects for local municipalities, federal agencies, and private clients to conduct hydrologic/hydraulic modeling and civil design including complex modeling.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing and/or directing design of stormwater control facilities (including detention/retention ponds and open channels) and directing surface water modeling, mapping, and designing of stormwater and flood control structures

  • Work with a team of hydraulic modeling professionals to manage technical tasks, complete quality assurance/quality control reviews, and prepare high quality work products including documentation of model development, calibration, results, and reports, including the application of engineering judgement.

  • Exercise judgment in developing details of work and making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives

  • Conducting and reviewing documentation of calculations

  • Preparing engineering reports

  • Prepare design drawings, plans, sections, details, and profiles/sections within the Autodesk Civil 3D, AutoCAD MEP, and/or MicroStation

  • Managing tasks of varying complexity

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in surface water or related field

  • 2+ years of experience in surface water modeling and design

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with plans of obtaining Professional Engineer within 1 year of hire

  • Exhibits in-depth knowledge of surface water modeling, planning and design projects and related technologies

  • Demonstrated familiarity with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software (e.g. HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS), and plan set production design software (e.g. AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Microstation, Inroads Storm and Sanitary)

  • Capable of using spreadsheet, word processing and standard office software

  • Demonstrated ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Ownership and accountability for quality deliverables

  • Ability to communicate the technical aspects of projects to a wide audience

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as exceptional organizational skills

  • Must possess a valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in surface water modeling and design

  • Certified Professional Engineer ( in Colorado or seeking reciprocity)

  • Business development experience including client relations and proposal preparation
