Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Senior Geotechnical Engineer for immediate employment in the Clifton, NJ office. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects. The candidate will be in charge of all aspects of geotechnical design and geotechnical engineering, and must have good leadership skills and motivational skills to work with different personalities. Candidate must have demonstrated management ability in maintaining project budgets and schedules. Position requires the candidate to be able to interact with clients and have some business development and marketing responsibilities

Projects include geotechnical reports and support of excavation design for high rise buildings, bridges and highways, slope stabilization, levees, dams, landfills and other infrastructure related facilities requiring good knowledge of all aspects of geotechnical engineering, including subsurface investigations, soil and rock engineering, earthquake engineering, driven piles and drilled shafts, anchors and tie-backs, instrumentation and micro-tunneling.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Determining workload for the group, including short and long term business goals and objectives; this includes participating in business development activities, including: planning, scheduling, client relations, marketing, proposal preparation, and presentations

  • Determining and addressing the root causes of both personnel and project issues

  • Attending weekly operations meetings with office management

  • Establishing, promoting, and ensuring quality on all projects and work performance and safety on all field projects

  • Planning, coordinating and monitoring projects to completion

  • Pro-actively monitoring projects to identify and address financial, safety and liability issues

  • Performing and reviewing engineering calculations

  • Assigning tasks to, and directing, engineers, technicians and administrative staff

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree of Science in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Geotechnical Engineering

  • 10+ years of related experience, which includes project management, budget management, client interaction or a demonstrated equivalent combination of education, experience and skills

  • Professional Engineer's License (PE) in NY and/or NJ or ability to obtain in a reasonable time frame

  • Experience performing geotechnical engineering analyses, and report and proposal preparation

  • Must have strong project management skills, including the ability to maintain project budgets and schedules, and delegate work to engineers

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to work closely on retaining current clients and securing future work from current clients

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree of Science in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Geotechnical Engineering

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD

  • Sustainability, resiliency and/or climate adaptation experience a plus, but not a requirement
