Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a 2nd shift Production Maintenance Technician III in Clayton, NC! Typical work schedule is Monday-Friday, 3pm – 10:30pm hours may vary based on business demand.

This manufacturing maintenance technician is responsible for providing an intermediate level expertise in responding to work orders, troubleshooting, and providing preventive maintenance on the production equipment and systems in a large industrial environment.

Must have the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot industrial production equipment and systems such as robotics, pumps, motors, gearboxes and other equipment as required. Perform all aspects of preventive and corrective electrical / mechanical maintenance on all production related industrial systems including, but not limited to: pneumatics, hydraulics, fluid pumping systems, HVAC and overhead crane systems. Ability to install electrical support systems using ridged conduit and associated hardware. Requires an understanding of and the ability to work safely around 480V 3-phase electrical power circuits, as well as basic electrical trouble shooting skills. Ideal candidates are self-motivated individuals capable of working with little supervision.

The Production Maintenance Technician III must have the ability to identify and correct any safety-related issues and perform independent equipment evaluations to identify potential equipment failures. General Maintenance of equipment will also be required, including minor plumbing repairs, lighting repairs, door and door hardware repairs, etc.


  • Diagnoses, troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs all production-related equipment onsite, and performs maintenance on facilities equipment, including automatic dolly conveyor systems, pneumatic and/or hydraulic systems and facilities HVAC system, as required.

  • Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots mechanical/electrical aspects of pumps, bearings, blowers, fans, gearboxes, and other equipment as required.

  • Conducts preventive maintenance inspections and performs required preventative maintenance actions such as lubrication, cleaning, filter changes, alignments, etc.

  • Performs plumbing and hydraulic hose repairs as needed.

  • Performs preventive maintenance as scheduled in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

  • Responds to and provides service and feedback to the customer on all work orders while assuring compliance to codes, regulations and industry standards.

  • Safely performs functions of the position including following proper safety guidelines such as job hazard analysis and lockout/tag out procedures and wearing PPE as required.

  • Operates various measuring, diagnostic and testing instruments to help provide energy efficiency solutions.

  • Operates a variety of equipment such as hand tools, laptop computers and diagnostic hardware to perform work.

  • Maintains a strict schedule in order to be successful in the assignment, yet demonstrates flexibility in the day-to-day activities and scheduling for the benefit of the customer.

  • Other duties as assigned by Manager or Supervisor.



Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  1. High school diploma or demonstrated equivalent.

  2. Three years of experience performing electrical or mechanical maintenance on industrial production equipment, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.

  3. Must have the ability to work in an aerial lift or scissor lift at heights up to 30 feet or higher.

  5. This position may require various shifts, weekends, and alternative work schedules.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Requires the ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.

  2. Requires the ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladder, stepladders, and stairs at least 10 times during shift.

  3. Requires the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat repetitive during shift.

  4. Requires the ability to regularly kneel repetitive for shift.

  5. Requires the ability to move in a 90-degree fashion on a repetitive basis for shift.

  6. Requires the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis for shift.

  7. Requires the ability to walk extensively throughout the plant during shift.

  8. Requires the use of a Company/Client approved utility knife.

  9. Requires the ability to differentiate colors pertaining to wire color-coding.

  10. Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.

  11. Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.

Special Requirements:

  1. Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed.

  2. Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Associates Degree in Industrial Technology, Industrial Mechanical, Industrial Electrical, or related program. Advanced PLC experience, including troubleshooting and making program changes, with Siemens S7-300, Allen Bradley, PLC-5, 500, and/or RS-5000.

  2. Experience diagnosing, troubleshooting and repairing industrial production systems such as fluid transfer systems, conveyors, and coolant systems to OEM specifications.

  3. Experience working with HVAC controls and mechanical systems.

  4. Experience with alignments and timing machines using precision calibration tools.

  5. Experience diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing pumps, motors, gearboxes, supply and exhaust fans, power transmission components, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

  6. Experience troubleshooting and repairing cranes and hoists.

  7. Experience utilizing measurement tools such as micrometers, dial indicators, various type gauges, and calibers to set tolerances to OEM Specifications.
