Job Summary

The Design and Consulting Services (DCS) Division of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Environmental Project Manager for immediate employment in our Environmental Impact Assessment and Permitting Group in Chicago, Illinois. The appropriately qualified applicant must demonstrate an established career in providing environmental permitting expertise for oil and gas development, pipeline, transmission and other linear/corridor projects.

The selected candidate will serve as an Environmental Project Manager and must have the ability to develop new work, coordinate and make successful handoffs to project team members, and manage individual projects while supporting business development opportunities for the group.

The responsibilities of this position include, but not limited to:

  • Environmental permitting, regulatory strategy development, environmental field surveys, and construction compliance for a variety of energy-related projects, including, but not limited to, oil and gas development projects, regulated and non-regulated pipeline projects, LNG terminals, solar and wind farms, refineries, and chemical plants

  • Managing project(s) with up to $2MM contract value, including planning, directing and supervising all aspects of the project financial results, client satisfaction, safety and quality

  • Leading business development and proposal opportunities, including the preparation of detailed proposals and cost estimates for new and existing clients

  • Ensuring the overall performance and accuracy of documents prepared for environmental services in accordance with policies or procedures under the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA), US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) guidelines, and United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), and other state/local agencies, as applicable

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (minimum) in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Biology, or equivalent; and at least one professional registration and/or certification applicable to Environmental Permitting

  • 5+ years (minimum) of applicable and relevant environmental permitting experience

  • Prior experience as a Project Manager or Senior Task Lead on environmental projects at a consulting and/or engineering firm including cost estimating and proposal development experience

  • Demonstrated experience and technical proficiency working with the above agencies and in Illinois and surround states in the Midwest

  • Excellent communication and writing skills with the ability to solve complex problems

  • Demonstrated initiative and strong client relationships

  • Ability and enthusiasm to develop business from new and existing clients

  • Ability to establish effective internal and external working relationships

  • Ability to work proficiently with MS Office products

  • Ability to travel to project sites as needed and required including a valid driver’s license and passport check

  • Ability to pass security requirements for site access including drug screens and/or background checks required for site entry

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant experience

  • Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Biology, or equivalent

  • PMP or other Project Management Certification

  • Experience with GIS software applicable to linear or other capital permitting projects

  • 40 Hour Hazwoper Training/Refresher

  • Experience with wetlands and threatened and endangered species various Midwest jurisdictions

  • Experience in one or more compliance related fields including, but not limited to, environmental auditing, water permitting, emergency response, EMIS, air permitting and/or industrial hygiene
