About the Business Line

Environment

Our team of environment specialists offers clients expertise in air quality, impact analysis and permitting, environmental health and safety management consulting/due diligence, remediation consulting/engineering and construction/site restoration, specialty and emerging technologies, waste services and water and natural resources.

Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Business Unit Leader for our Environment Business Line for immediate employment in the Chicago, IL office, which includes an active staff of 75+ professionals with diverse arrays of environmental skill sets. This individual must portray a strong background with client management and development with solid office financial management. This position will report directly to the Vice President of the Eastern Midwest Area Business Unit.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Meets or exceeds Key Performance Indicators: Gross and Net Revenue, Direct Personnel Expense (Utilization), Direct Labor Multiplier, As Sold Margin, Gross Margin, Contribution Margin, book-to-burn, backlog growth and client satisfaction

  • Manages and develops employees in accordance with AECOM core values and performance management competencies, including managing talent and proactively supporting the performance management and succession planning processes

  • Reinforces collaboration and team building, ensures client focus, demonstrates commitment to excellence and innovation, and motivates others to ensure positive morale and engagement

  • Develops strategic plan to drive growth, backlog and sales in defined market sectors and end markets within the Environment business line

  • Influences deployment of BD resources and budget to deliver target return on BD investment

  • Ensures that AECOM programs such as Sustainability, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Ethics & Compliance are an overriding part of the organizational culture

  • Builds relationships with key clients, funding sources, industry organizations, teaming partners, and stakeholders to identify opportunities and grow the business

  • Develops and guides strategic/mega proposal opportunities

  • Coordinates and collaborates with other geography business line leaders to maximize cross-selling and to offer

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related Scientific or Engineering field

  • 15+ years of technical/operations experience in the environmental consulting business, including project/program management, business development, strategy development, etc.

  • Strong command of business acumen and can demonstrate experience in a management role for 5+ years

  • Prior leadership experience within an environmental or engineering consulting company

  • Ability to deliver business development (capture) capability

  • Strong background in industrial manufacturing

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communications skillsets

  • Reputation as a high performer/self-starter that has the ability to collaborate with senior management teams to achieve substantial growth and profitability

  • Strong command of interpersonal skills

  • Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Chem-pharma, Power and other market sectors

  • Chicago PE or PG licenses
