The Director, DCS Americas Quality provides the strategic direction, oversight and leadership to enable a scalable quality and continuous improvement system for the DCS Americas Business Group. Through coordination with Regional Executives, this position leads a decentralized quality team of six Regional Quality Managers and a network of Area and Local Quality resources supporting more than 200 offices across the United States, Canada and Latin America. The position reports to the AECOM Corporate VP, Quality and can work from any AECOM office located in the Americas. Periodic overnight travel is required.
Act as change agent to drive a continuous improvement culture. Communicate the vision for quality, challenge inefficient processes and procedures, initiate new or improved quality practices, and institutionalize quality initiatives.
Provide subject matter expertise and consulting to executive leadership, managers, and project teams to define and promote a customer-focused quality and improvement culture.
Influence the organization’s acceptance and adoption of quality practices and common ways of working to facilitate collaboration and improve the predictability and efficiency of work and services.
Assist in the development of an AECOM Lean Design / Lean Construction program. Engage, educate and empower employees to apply Lean tools to their daily work to drive efficiency and client satisfaction.
Provide strategic direction and leadership to identify and eliminate the causes of systemic issues. Analyze findings from Root Cause Analysis (RCA) events, quality audits and client feedback to identify trends and develop systematic quality improvement plans.
Engage stakeholders across DCS Americas to mature the AECOM standard RCA process. Train and mentor region and area quality resources to effectively lead RCAs within their areas of responsibility. Lead RCAs across the geography as required.
Collaborate with the Enterprise Quality Audit Leader to assess the effectiveness of corrective actions and validate business improvement impact with the use of metrics and analytics to correlate to financial performance.
Work with Regional Quality Managers to conduct quarterly regional quality management reviews with senior leaders, with a specific emphasis on identifying and eliminating causes of systemic quality issues.
Oversee DCS Americas quality metric reporting.
Enable collaboration across regions, offices and Business Lines to share best practices and optimize existing quality policies and procedures.
Facilitate the agenda for the Americas Technical Quality Council. Engage the council to advance technical practices and the predictability / consistency of deliverables.
Coordinate with regional quality staff and senior leaders to upgrade and sustain the DCS Americas ISO 9001: 2008 certification to ISO 9001:2015 in FY17.
Support the enterprise-wide quality communications strategy to inform and engage key stakeholders in AECOM quality practices, initiatives, and performance.
Coordinate with Regional Executives to provide leadership to a broad decentralized Americas quality team consisting of Regional, Area, and Local Quality Managers. Standardize DCS Americas quality roles & responsibilities to optimize the impact of quality and improve consistency of quality support.
Analyze organizational quality training needs. Assist in the development and implementation of training plans. Evaluate training for effectiveness.
Engage in industry-related quality organizations to maintain a current knowledge of best practices and innovations in quality systems.
Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering or related field.
13+ years of experience leading, implementing and managing enterprise-wide Quality Management Systems for large-scale, global, matrixed organizations.
Extensive experience implementing quality management principles and methodologies, including ISO 9001, Six Sigma and Lean.
Professional certification in Quality Management, Lean, Six Sigma, Business Analysis or Project Mgmt.
Experience deploying strategies to drive organizational performance results.
Ability to develop, articulate and measure the value proposition of quality initiatives through quantitative and qualitative data.
Experience leading root cause analysis programs.
Proficiency in project management approaches and tools.
Proven ability to influence others to action and mentor a culture of quality which begins with senior leaders and cascades through the organization.
Proven drive for results, from self and others.
Exceptional communication, presentation and facilitation skills.
Experience partnering closely with and advising senior leadership and executives.
Strong analytic and decision making abilities.
Experience in architecture, engineering design or construction fields preferred.
MBA or related advanced degree preferred.
