As a Senior Engineer you will manage the technical and commercial aspects of projects from feasibility to detailed design and be able to carry out technical reviews of calculations, drawings and other design aspects.

As the successful candidate, you will hold a BEng/MEng in a related engineering field with experience in electrical engineering. Ideally you will have significant experience of designing and delivering works on surface water pumping stations, river control structures and water and sewage treatment works as well as telemetry and control systems related to these. You will be a Chartered Engineer or close to achieving this status.

Minimum Requirements

Due to an increased demand for our water-related MEICA expertise we are looking for a Senior Engineer to join our successful multi-disciplinary water team in Chesterfield.

As a Senior Engineer you will delegate tasks, direct and oversee the work of others and act as a technical mentor to more junior staff. This position will see you undertake the role of Project Manager for a range of water and flood risk projects across England and Wales, with a focus towards the Midlands and Northern England. There will also be opportunities to work on overseas projects should this be of interest.

Key job responsibilities include:

  • Provide technical lead on the delivery of electrical outputs on small to medium projects and sub-tasks.

  • Liaise with design teams, contractors and clients in order to deliver technical designs for electrical aspects of installations, process plants, ICA and SCADA.

  • Undertaking feasibility reviews and working up outline proposals for the works and design services.

  • The technical delivery of detailed design services in accordance with current legislation and standards, including technical, quality, H&S and customer service

  • Act as Project Manager for small to medium MEICA projects or project inputs for both internal and external clients.

  • Undertake a technical mentoring role for more junior staff.

  • Have a flexible approach and work effectively with the MEICA and wider Chesterfield Water team to ensure team objectives are met and to contribute to staff development.

  • Assist in the efficient running of the Chesterfield Water Engineering Team, and in personal and technical development of team members.

  • Essential:

  • Significant and demonstrable experience of working within a similar role.

  • Experience of managing projects, delegating tasks and technical mentoring.

  • Member of relevant Professional Institution (IET) or equivalent.

  • An understanding of the UK water business and AMP cycle, current standards and legislation

  • Have a track record in designing effective and practical solutions.

  • Experience of UK water/FCERM sector.

  • Able to deliver designs and documents for an overall electrical package (installation, specifications, tender packages, ICA and SCADA).

Preferred Qualifications

  • B Eng/M Eng Degree in electrical engineering.

  • Experience of design and build projects.

  • Experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Knowledge and experience of WIMES, DSEAR, FMEA.

  • Demonstrable experience of effective delegation and resource management.

  • Knowledge and experience of operating NEC ECC and PSC contracts.

  • Experience of direct liaison with Clients at a Project Manager/Project Director level.

  • Experience of factory and site acceptance testing.
