Job Summary

Our Chelmsford, MA office is currently seeking a Wetland Scientist/Natural Resources Specialist to perform environmental field and reporting tasks. The selected candidate must be self-motivated and able to follow through with assignments, with a strong background and field expertise in wetland delineation, state and federal permitting, and environmental planning. This is a mid-level professional position (5-10 years of experience) providing the individual an opportunity to expand upon their wetland science and natural resources field skills, as well as report preparation and project management skills.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting wetland delineations

  • Regulatory permitting

  • Wildlife habitat evaluation

  • Endangered species surveys

  • Impact assessment and mitigation planning

  • Restoration and mitigation site monitoring

  • Construction monitoring

  • Report preparation and interactions with state and federal agencies

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology/Ecology/Natural Resources or related field; MS preferred

  • Experience in some or all of the following activities: proven wetland delineation expertise, wetland and stream quality assessments, wetland and stream mitigation design and monitoring, endangered species habitat assessments, and rare plant surveys; 5-10 years-experience in consulting

  • Experience with the State wetlands regulatory permitting programs in New England (MA, NH, CT, RI, VT, ME) as well as Clean Water Act Section 401/404 permitting

  • An understanding of municipal, state, and federal environmental regulations, permitting, and policy in New England

  • The individual should be comfortable working in physically challenging outdoor situations in all types of weather and traveling on a regular basis to project sites located in Massachusetts and the surrounding Northeastern U.S. region

  • Estimated office/field time: 70% / 30%. Must be willing to travel

  • Computer skills including experience with MS Office Word/Excel

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Ability to work as part of a larger team a must

  • Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers 40 hour wetland delineation training preferred

  • Knowledge of New England flora, fauna and natural systems preferred

  • Candidate must be able to pass requirements of an OSHA screening physical (HAZWOPER)

  • Candidate must have excellent technical writing skills and ability to effectively express his or herself orally among internal staff, clients, and sub-contractors

  • Candidate must be detail oriented and have the ability to work independently

  • Candidate must exhibit a mature sense of professional responsibility and awareness of accepted standards of professional behavior

  • Candidate must be experienced with basic computer programs; MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with statistics, GPS, ArcGIS or AutoCAD a plus
