We create comprehensive delivery solutions for water, wastewater and wet weather systems, desalination, water resources, water reuse, tunneling, and community infrastructure through traditional and alternative delivery services such as program management and design-build.

Job Summary

Our AECOM Chelmsford, Massachusetts office is seeking a qualified and highly motivated individual for a full-time Mechanical HVAC Engineer professional. This senior level design engineer position will involve a variety of new and renovations to existing governmental, commercial, institutional and industrial facilities in the Water Business Line and in other AECOM business lines. The qualified candidate must have a strong background in the design and engineering of building heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems, as well as, energy conservation and sustainability, and be skilled in the fundamentals of engineering thermo-fluids and psychrometrics.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Scoping and pricing for proposals

  • Investigations and assessments, calculations, energy conservation studies, economic analyses, reports, conceptual design through development of detailed drawings, specifications, control schemes and sequences of operation, and construction sequencing

  • System operating procedures, systems troubleshooting and corrective action

  • Keep abreast of the latest mechanical and energy codes and HVAC industry technology

  • Technical assistance for construction cost estimates and construction phase services

  • Project coordination with other engineering disciplines, code compliance and quality control; supervision of junior engineers and designers, and cost control

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • Must have an EIT license

  • 5+ years of solid relevant professional experience in the design and engineering of most types of heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems

  • Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to work well in teams

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy of work

  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight

  • Ability to meet quality, schedule and budget expectations

  • Experienced in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point)

  • Ability to multi-task and be flexible and able to adapt to rapidly changing project requirements and deadlines

  • Apply passion and enthusiasm for design in a collaborative and progressive team-oriented work environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AutoCAD

  • Experience with Revit

  • LEED AP status

  • Plumbing and fire suppression design experience

  • An active PE license is preferred, not mandated for hire - However, if no PE license, the expectation is to obtain a PE license within 1-year after hire
