The Water Business Line of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Water/Wastewater Project Engineer with a focus in water/wastewater conveyance design, and some experience in pumping systems, for immediate employment in our Charlotte, NC office.
The appropriately qualified applicant will have a significant role in the design and construction administration of a variety of water and wastewater conveyance projects and potentially water/wastewater treatment facilities. Work will include Planning, design, permitting, and construction phase services and will include activities focused on site-specific design of water/wastewater projects including potential opportunities to work on alternate delivery projects. The selected candidate will also work together with senior members of our Water Business Line team to seek new business opportunities and may serve in a lead role on various water or wastewater projects, depending on size and complexity.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Perform and overseeing the detailed planning and design of various project elements
Preparation of project reports, hydraulic models, calculations, drawings, construction plans and specifications, permitting packages, and documents for inclusion in the final project deliverables as necessary for the bidding and construction of designed works

Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental Engineering or related discipline
5+ years of experience in municipal water/wastewater conveyance and pumping engineering and design
Candidate must have proven excellent leadership skills, and demonstrated ability to successfully work in diverse teams
Must have project engineer experience with some experience managing projects or components of projects
Must have strong technical engineering expertise in water or wastewater treatment conveyance design
Must have excellent time management skills, a strong work ethic, and attention to detail
Must have the ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with technicians, designers, engineers and project managers for the preparation of high quality work products
Must have the ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with clients, regulatory agency representatives and members of the public when required to represent the company
Must be a licensed Professional Engineer in NC or have the ability to obtain within 6 months with the ability to become licensed in SC as well
Must have a valid driver's license
Must have strong communication skills in coordinating with clients, sub-consultants, regulatory agencies, and members of the public may be necessary to accomplish assigned objectives.
Occasional business travel of one to two days per month may be required
Must have a sound foundation in the planning, permitting, and design of water and wastewater conveyance projects
Must have demonstrated successful client relationship skills as a project engineer and be capable of assisting senior staff in growing and securing business opportunities
Master's Degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering a plus
Experience working on projects by “alternative delivery” approaches a plus (design/build, progressive design/build, construction management at risk, etc.)
Experience in preparation of engineering proposals for submission to clients
Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3-D software
