Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Entry-Level Geologist for employment in the Chantilly, Va office. AECOM is pleased to include you in a unique development opportunity, the Graduate Development Program (GDP). The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Utilize basic scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope

  • Collect and enter data, and apply technical principles and theories

  • Interpret and record data, conduct analyses, compare findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance

  • Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member

  • Collecting groundwater, soil, and vapor samples and analyzing laboratory data

  • Implementing solutions and offering innovations to remediate contaminated sites

  • Supervising the implementation of remedial actions such as installation and abandonment of monitoring wells, drilling boreholes, substrate injections, or in-situ stabilization of contaminated soil

  • Logging soil cores to create detailed geologic cross-sections of subsurface lithology

  • Performing aquifer tests to determine hydraulic properties

  • Creating potentiometric maps of groundwater elevations

  • Testing, operating, and maintaining site remediation systems

  • Researching and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations

  • Producing remediation work plans, investigations, and reports for commercial and federal clients

  • Training and leadership development in remediation and environmental site assessment

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology

  • Location in the DC Metro area

  • Must be able to work outdoors year-round.

  • Must be capable of learning to use basic field equipment when collecting samples of groundwater, surface water, sediment, and potable water

  • Must be able to record data for use by others, prepare samples for shipping, and complete chain-of-custody or similar paperwork

  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds

  • Must be able to safely drive a full-size pickup truck
