Position Title Senior Town Planner

Job Summary

Duties and Responsibilities:

Customer relations and networking:

  • Develop, maintain and manage client relationship to ensure retention and overall customer satisfaction.

  • Identify and utilise networking opportunities effectively and efficiently e.g local authorities that do not have internal capacity.

Project management:

  • Compile project plans, project reports, technical reports and manage projects to ensure projects are delivered within time and budget and take remedial actions where necessary.

  • Execute related project administration timely and accurately to ensure smooth running of project and to contribute to efficient project management.

  • Execute all assigned project work professionally to ensure project is completed in time and on budget and to contribute to financial success of both the project and business unit. Project.

  • Conduct project / tender specific research to ensure best solution is . presented to clients and / or stakeholders.

Research and Development:

  • Compile accurate and sound technical reports and submit to relevant stakeholders timely.

  • Interpret policy and educate the business and relevant stakeholders.

  • Relevant stakeholders are informed and educated timely.

Business Development:

  • Identify tender opportunities and assist with the completion thereof.

  • Actively market AECOM in Strategic Planning / Master planning.

Strategic / Master Planning:

  • Conduct, develop and/or implement integrated development plans; local, provincial and/or national spatial development frameworks; urban development frameworks; site options analysis’s; growth and development strategies; precinct plans and related investment studies; transit orientated developments and integrate land use and transport planning for mega projects predominantly.

Land use management:

  • Develop new or amend current land use management schemes applications on specific project schemes and systems and conduct site development planning predominantly. Also assist with Council liaison for approvals and permissions on major AECOM projects.

Minimum Requirements

Experience:

  • 5 to 10 years experience.

Personal attributes, qualities or competencies:

  • Understanding of the political environment - government, its protocols and structures (nationally and locally)

  • In depth understanding of National spatial development perspective

  • Understanding of the current land use management legislation

  • Understanding of inter-relationships and inter-dependency with other departments (such as transport planning), business, government and industry

  • Project management and administration skills

  • Awareness of industry trends / market trends within Town & Regional planning

  • Technical report writing skills

  • Presentation skills

  • Understanding of relevant theories and ability to apply practically

  • MS Office Suit including MS Project (as an advantage), including the willingness to register as a PMP of not registered yet and to register as a professional project manager within AECOM

  • Management skills

  • Networking skills

  • Skilled in AutoCAD / GIS software or REVIT as an added advantage

Preferred Qualifications

  • Registered as a professional planner with SACPLAN.

  • Registration with PMI as a PMP (Project Management Professional) will be seen as an advantage.
