Job Summary

The Business Line Lead - Transportation shall be AECOMs Transportation Business Line’s most senior operational position lead within the African Region. The Business Line Lead - Transportation must display visible leadership and oversee all operational measures necessary to secure profitable delivery of transportation projects in Africa and, in so doing, also contribute to the overall profitability of the Civil Infrastructure End Market.

In their role as the most senior person within their geographical region, they will also be expected to:

  • Ensure compliance and best practice with all company procedures, particularly those associated with health and safety, risk, financial management, and core values.

  • Drive all people related activity in the region which supports the company’s aim of building an engaging and inclusive culture and workplace.

  • Provide visible leadership in the region, supporting the development of our people and careers with AECOM.

  • Be the primary point of contact for any regional or local cross Business Line initiatives.

  • Engagement with other senior staff necessary to discharge these duties.


Business Line Lead - Transportation responsibilities are grouped in five areas (A-E) which tend to be cyclical on a Monthly, Quarterly or Annual basis:

A. Health & Safety:

  • Work closely with business Lines Health & Safety Lead to drive a Safety First, ZERO incident culture.

  • Responsible for undertaken and logging Senior Management Observations. (One per quarter minimum).

B. Profit & Loss and Working Capital:

  • Manage the delivery of Net Service Revenue, Margin, Billing and Cash Collection across all Projects in the District.

  • Manage Business Line Indirect Budgets.

C. Project Performance & Risk:

  • Manage and oversee all commercial aspects of project delivery with an emphasis on ensuring compliance with Data Quality Index and all other operational metrics.

  • Through regular and timely project reviews, ensure all project delivery activities confirm;AECOM’s DoA procedures, Delivery Excellence and Any additional business line specific procedures. (E.g. Go-No- Go).

  • Assist fellow Business Line Lead - Transportation and Sector/Sub-sector leaders to maximise utilisation of staff across all streams and all regions.

  • Maintain an up-to-date Risks and Opportunities Schedule for your district.

D. Business Development:

  • Oversee maintenance of market sector strategies.

  • Oversee and Key Account Manager activities.

  • Coordinate major pursuits with the Transportation Business Line.

  • Management of Sources of Revenue and oversee Sales force maintenance activities.

  • Monitor Net Promoter Score feedback and follow-up activities.

E. People:

  • Support location managers and facilities team to manage office space requirements and provision, plus planning the accommodation of significant changes in staff numbers.

  • Drive a culture of performance excellence by supporting and championing the company’s formal processes for staff development and advancement particularly;Performance & Rewards process;Mid-year and end of year compensation planning processes;training associated with obtaining professional qualifications; and work closely with HR, playing a key role in all people related activities in the business line, which positively impact employee retention and engagement.

Minimum Requirements

As a senior member of staff within a district, the Business Line Lead - Transportation will have further duties associated with planning and communication. These will include the following:

  • Be the primary conduit for communication of Corporate or Business Line information to local staff.

  • Be the primary conduit for communicating relevant technical and non-technical information to a wider audience beyond the local region.

  • Be the primary conduit for communicating health & safety issues and lessons learned.

Preferred Qualifications

Relevant Honours and / or Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Transportation.
