AECOM’s Global Support Services (GSS) organization resides within AECOM’s Government business line and is comprised of three divisions — International Development, Operations and Mission Support, and Global Programs. Job Summary

AECOM has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Waste Characterization Engineer/Scientist in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

The successful candidate will provide radiological characterization expertise for the Central Characterization Program (CCP). Technical expert in the area of radiological characterization of TRU waste using nondestructive assay and radiochemistry methods. Ensure CCP radiological characterization complies with applicable requirements including the WIPP Waste Acceptance Criteria. Interface with regulatory agencies during audits. Recommend characterization methods based on site-specific TRU waste characteristics and needs. Supports CCP management in development of out-year plans, project cost estimates and schedules. Recommend strategies for improving CCP performance. Facilitate work with cross-functional groups.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Nuclear Engineering, Radiological Engineering, Physics/Health Physics or Chemistry.

• Five (5) years of experience in the federal or commercial nuclear industry that demonstrates knowledge and application of radiological characterization techniques.

• Candidate is expected to need indoctrination in CCP policy, plans and procedures including general instructions, but should require little technical direction to complete assigned tasks.

• Due to the nature of the work, candidates must be US Citizens.

Preferred Qualifications • Previous WIPP experience is preferred.
