Position Title Assistant Environmental Regulatory Specialist

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking an Assistant Environmental Regulatory Specialist to be based in our Carlbad, NM location.

Incumbent performs technical functions that support EPA-specific regulatory activities (primarily 40 CFR 191 and 194) to ensure the WIPP facility maintains compliance with EPA requirements. Also performs technical functions that support DOE directed, EPA-specific regulatory activities (primarily 40 CFR 191 and 194) to ensure the DOE and NWP maintain compliance with EPA requirements in relation to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) facility.

Candidate must possess the necessary skills to effectively collaborate with Recertification Project Team colleagues to prepare and submit regulatory documents that will satisfy customer (DOE and Nuclear Waste Partnership [NWP]) expectations and meet EPA requirements.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Revise and maintain applicable EPA Compliance Programs’ implementing procedures and desktop instructions.

  • Support the preparation of an electronic interactive version of the 2019 Compliance Recertification Application.

  • Collaboratively interact with technical authors and editors to produce regulatory documents and resolve comments.

  • Assist with the management of two electronic libraries that include the posting of compliance documentation plus past, present and future compliance applications to the EPA as required by 40 CFR 194.

  • Collect data using advanced Geospatial Information System techniques, process and enter data in a database as part of the Delaware Basin Drilling Surveillance Program.

  • Assist in the writing of periodic program reports.

  • Produce maps using the above data via ESRI ArcGIS.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies, Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Engineering and 1 year of job-related experience.

  • Excellent analytical skills.

  • Excellent verbal communication and technical writing skills.

  • Working knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat and GIS software.

  • Advanced MS Word skills including experience with applying custom styles and using equation editor.

  • Experience with manipulating size and resolution of electronic images.

  • Experience with electronic libraries, databases, data analysis, file naming conventions and metadata.

  • Experience with HTML is a plus.

  • Must be highly motivated and be able to work independently and as a member of a team.

  • Due to the nature of the work, candidate must be a US Citizen.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with the WIPP Project a plus.
