Job Summary

AECOM has an opening for an experienced Assistant Engineers Representative with road works experience for a road rehabilitation project in the Western Cape. The project includes 12.5 km of road rehabilitation as well as numerous structures as and the widening a bridge over the Kleinberg river.

This is an immediate requirement for a project that starts in July 2017.

Main responsibilities for this position:

  • Report to the Engineer's Representative

  • Manage all roadwork and /or structural activities to ensure the contractor adheres to the client's requirements and design specifications.

  • Liaising with the client, contractor and professional team

  • Check drawings and addess technical queries

  • Monitoring of contractors and sub-contractors on site

  • Management and mentoring of junior site staf

  • Contract Adminstration, supervision of the construction works, quality control, financial control, liaison with the Client, Engineer, specialists and Contractor

  • Assist the Engneer's Representative with preparing the monthly payment certificates.

  • Review material testing results for acceptance purposes

  • Maintain acceptance control records as per standard procedures

  • Visual inspection of Lot submissions

  • Monitor progress against the constractor's programme

  • Assisting the Engineer's Respresentative with the prepartion of the Contract Report.

  • Maintain up to date material as-build records for incorporation to the Contract Report and undertake measurement control and correlation testing

Minimum Requirements

  • Prepare and submit mix designs to the Engineers Representative

  • Review material and concrete testing results for acceptance purposes

  • Maintain acceptance control records as per standard procedures

  • Visual inspection of Lot submissions

  • Monitor progress against the contractor's programme

  • Assisting the Engineer's Representative with the preparation of the Contract Report.

  • Maintain up to date material as-build records for incorporation to the Contract Report and undertake measurement control and correlation testingPersonal attributes, qualities or competencies needed for the role:

  • Appropriate construction monitoring experience

  • Candidate wishes to make Construction Monitoring and Management his choice of career

  • Proficient with SANS 1200 and COLTO specification

  • Extensive knowledge of FIDIC and GCC 2010 conditions of contracts

  • Some knowledge of GCC 2015 conditions of contract

  • Good understanding of the OH&S Construction Regulations 2014

  • Civil Designer and AutoCAD experience essential

  • Committed, responsible, dynamic, self-motivated individual with good people management skills

  • Ability to plan and execute work independently and to meet tight deadlines

  • Candidate must be willing to work on construction sites not only in the Western Cape but anywhere in South Africa

  • Candidate must be willing to work away from home and/or relocate depending on the location of the site

  • Proficient with MS Office Suite and MS Projects

  • Excellent communication and report writing skills

  • Required to have valid driver’s license and own transport

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professionally registered engineer/technician with a BSc/BEng/BTech or NDip qualification in Civil Engineering or eligability to register within 6 months.

  • Minimum 5-10 years’ experience on major road rehab, reseal projects and structures (bridges, culverts, retaining walls etc) with either SANRAL or Western Cape Government including municipal infrastructure projects
