Our team of environment specialists offers clients expertise in air quality, impact analysis and permitting, environmental health and safety management consulting/due diligence, remediation consulting/engineering and construction/site restoration, specialty and emerging technologies, waste services and water and natural resources.

Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking an organized and independent individual to serve as a Nursery/Propagation Assistant. This position would support numerous restoration projects in the southern California region.

The responsibilities of this position include supporting operations at AECOM’s Clover Flats Facility in Campo, California, including, but not limited to:

  • Develop protocol for tracking native seed collection, including lots, source locations, quantities (bulk and clean), and test results

  • Implement tracking program and provide guidance to team for tracking native seed collections

  • Assemble seed mix orders according to specifications and source locations

  • Under direction of Field Director, provide oversight for native seed collection and seed bulking efforts

  • Assist Field Director in managing all seed and plant propagation activities at Clover Flats Facility

  • Conduct maintenance and upkeep for the Clover Flats Facility, including the staff house, barn, and field

  • Propagate plants in nursery, prepare soil, pot plants, oversee supplemental watering, etc, including propagation of special-status plants

  • Oversee drying and cleaning process for native seed

  • Assist Restoration Ecologists performing surveys in the field, as time allows

  • Perform physical labor outdoors in all seasons of the year, consistent with AECOM’s health and safety requirements and procedures

  • Promote a culture of safety at the nursery and associated facilities

  • Work independently and as part of a team; be innovative and a problem solver

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field (biology, ecology, etc.)

  • 2+ years of experience

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools

  • Ability to create and maintain tracking spreadsheets and documents

  • Ability to work independently, identifying what needs to be accomplished and regularly completing tasks

  • Team player

  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Native plant knowledge and identification, including field experience, are preferred

  • Native plant propagation and seed collection experience

  • Strong interest and proven ability in native plant propogation/gardening/farming is desired

  • Field equipment – knowledge and familiarity with use and repair of small power equipment, such as weed eaters, chain saws, and blowers

  • Experience operating light to medium duty machinery, such as gator and skip loader

  • Background in natural resources/biology/ecology
