Job Summary

URS/AECOM has an opening for a­ Welder (Maintenance Lead) in Kuwait.

­Performs a variety of general and specific metal welding fabrication and repairs to include: operation of plasma putters, oxyacetylene torches, and MIG, TIG, and ARC welding machines to repair or fabricate items made of ferrous and non-ferrous metals at the General Support (GS) and (DS) Direct Support level of maintenance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Performs PMCS and operator level maintenance on oxygen-acetylene torches, plasma cutting machines and various welding machines.

  2. Fabricates large variety of parts and special projects as required utilizing various grinders, drilling machines, hand tools, shearing machines and manual metal brake machines.

  3. Welds components in flat, vertical or overhead positions. Ignites torches or starts power supplies and strike arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded to complete electrical circuits.

  4. Clamps, holds, tack-welds, heat-bends, grinds and/or bolts component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.

  5. Detects faulty operation of equipment and/or defective materials and notifies supervisors.

  6. Operates manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc, shielded metal arc, resistance welding and submerged arc welding.

  7. Monitors the fitting, burning and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.

  8. Recognizes, sets up, and operates hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.

  9. Positions, aligns, and secures parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers and rulers.

  10. Assist the Supervisor with assigning and monitoring the work load.

  11. Ensure strict compliance to safety practices and support the AC FIRST Safety Policies and Procedures.

  12. Instills a safety first mentality within respective work areas and a culture that achieves low accident rates and minimal lost-time injuries.

  13. Adhere to ISO Policies, Procedures, and Work Instructions in support of the AC FIRST Quality Management System.

  14. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.

  • AWS welding certificate from a vocational academy or equivalent required.

  • 3-4 years welding experience required.

  • 1 year experience in fabrication is required.

  • This is a journeyman level position.

  • Work experience may be substituted for educational requirements and/or educational achievements may be substituted for years of experience. Example: Two (2) years of experience is equivalent to (2) years of college and vice versa.

Specialized knowledge and skills:

a) Must be able to pass Welding trade skill PQS and internal validation testing within 30 days of hire.

b) Must have knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.

c) Must have basic knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.

d) Must be able to read and understand blue print drawings and sketches.

e) Must have strong troubleshooting and math skills.
