Our team of environment specialists offers clients expertise in air quality, impact analysis and permitting, environmental health and safety management consulting/due diligence, remediation consulting/engineering and construction/site restoration, specialty and emerging technologies, waste services and water and natural resources.

Job Summary

AECOM’s Calgary office is currently seeking a Reclamation Specialist to join our team of young and dynamic biophysical professionals within our Environment Business Line.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with upstream client specific reclamation programs

  • Preparing and reviewing work plans for pre-reclamation assessments, DSAs, vegetation management programs, and surface reclamation projects

  • Mentoring field staff in regards to regulatory guidelines, field protocols, and best practices

  • Conducting field inspections when necessary to monitor work activities and train junior staff members

  • Working with the team on a wide variety of major assessment and remediation oil and gas opportunities

  • Tracking and updating the reclamation group with ongoing regulatory updates

  • Signing Professional Declarations for DSAs and RCAs

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field

  • 4+ years of relevant upstream well site reclamation assessment experience

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including report writing

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

  • Ability to manage time effectively

  • Willingness to work flexible hours under a variety of conditions

  • Excellent knowledge of Alberta reclamation guidelines, regulations and applications

  • Experience with landscape, soils and vegetation assessments, including weed identification skills and provincial status

  • Experience managing and reviewing pre-reclamation assessments, Phase 1 ESA reports, Detailed Site Assessments (DSA), vegetation management programs and Reclamation Certificate Application (RCA) and submissions

  • Ability to mentor others with managing, coordinating and supervising contractors

  • Professional designation with one of seven professional organizations recognized by the AER

  • Must possess a valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of Alberta agricultural, grazing, native grassland and forested land reclamation experience

  • Understanding erosion and sediment control measures

Experience with

  1. Reviewing pre-reclamation and DSA reports

  2. Developing and reviewing Reclamation Certificate Applications

  3. Training staff to conduct pre-reclamation and post-reclamation site assessments

  4. Mentoring field staff with identifying vegetation, including weeds, characterizing soils, and assessing landscape parameters

  5. Mentoring field staff with managing, coordinating and supervising sub-contractors

  6. Preparing and reviewing reclamation recommendations and vegetation management programs

  7. Tracking site’s progress and planning ahead for the next stage
