Job Summary

AECOM is looking for a HSSE Lead to join our Maintenance Services Team in Sarnia.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure key aspects of EHS Management System are continuously measured and monitored to ensure effective function.

  • Co-ordinate, prepare and forward monthly EHS reports to the EHS Manager and Line Management as directed.

  • Ensure that the relevant Managers are notified of incidents as required by the Incident Reporting and Investigation Procedure.

  • Conduct EHS Audits as per the audit schedule.

  • As Applicable, Inform the relevant EHS Advisors and line Managers of Statutory changes and any corresponding new requirements.

  • Provide technical guidance and operational support to EHS Advisors and Line Managers as required.

  • Ensure all EHS initiatives are implemented in the appropriate timeframes, through a consultative approach with Line Managers.

  • Liaise with employer groups and regulatory authorities as necessary.

  • Ensure statutory reportable incident notification forms are reviewed prior to submission.

  • Comply with AECOM Safety Management System and relevant statutory obligations.

  • Initiate actions to prevent the occurrence of non-conformities in processes or systems.

  • Identify, initiate, recommend and assist in the issue resolution process.

  • Verify and confirm the effective implementation of proposed solutions.

  • Promote a positive EHS culture in the workplace.

  • Promote and encourage the use of continuous improvement concepts in the workplace through the development and maintenance of Business Unit, Alliance or site specific EHS Improvement Plans.

  • Liaise with client EHS Managers to ensure, where possible, consistency of site systems and to gain the benefit of any available synergies for EHS improvement

  • Assist in the Workers' Compensation function.

  • Where applicable, ensure Workers' Compensation claim reviews are conducted on a regular basis with Insurer.

  • Where applicable produce EHS statistical reports and other information on an as needs basis for tender submissions and other areas as necessary.

  • Assist in the transition and implementation of new contracts as appropriate.

  • Provide support, advice and direction for line management.

  • Promote an organisational culture that empowers all personnel to be involved in EHS matters and to pro-actively take action to reduce risk and to protect people and the environment.

  • Promote an organisational culture where incidents and hazards are reported, and where investigations involve line management to identify and correct the root causes.

  • Ensure all individuals involved in incidents are treated fairly and with respect and that blame is limited to acts of recklessness, indifference and wilful misconduct.

  • Facilitate and foster the periodic meeting of EHS personnel to enhance communication and drive improvement initiatives

Minimum Requirements

Experience:

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in similar role or capacity within refining, construction and/or maintenance industries.

  • A comprehensive knowledge of EHS principles, practice and legislation

Skills:

  • Proficient with computer software programs including by not limited to MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

  • Strong leadership and people skills; able to work independently and with a team

  • Ability to act as an ambassador and promote the organization’s health, safety and wellness agenda

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Comfortable as a public speaker; able to lead group meetings and facilitates engagement by meeting attendees

Preferred Qualifications

Formal Education

  • Completion of Industrial Safety and Loss Management program or equivalent, or;

  • Completed university degree

Professional Designation

  • Professional certification or training in occupational health and safety - Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) or equivalent required and Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation as an asset.
