Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Coop Student to be based in our Calgary, Alberta location.

As part of the Student Co-op/internship program at AECOM, students who are enrolled in post secondary education will be able to gain valuable work experience; either during summer break, or as part of a formal co-operative education program. The student is responsible for performing assigned duties, under the direction of experienced personnel, to gain knowledge and experience required for attaining future positions in the AECOM organization.

AECOM Oil & Gas Summer Co-op offers qualified participants an opportunity to learn the oil and gas construction business starting from the ground level. The program offers skilled supervision, a variety of field-based operational training, exposure to a variety of functional areas and mentoring to ensure success.

Each CO-OP student will work directly in field operations, starting out at the ground level to fully understand oil and gas construction cycle. This field experience is then combined with exposure in Project Services, front-end Construction planning, Coordination and other functional areas

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understand AECOM’s safety culture and apply the appropriate procedures to safety/environmental practices

  • Participate in AECOM’s Behavior Based Observation Program

  • Attend all scheduled safety meetings

  • Reports for work prepared and on time

  • Follows all AECOM policies and procedures pertaining to assignment area

  • Follows through on assigned tasks

  • Treats others fairly and with respect

  • Communicates clearly

  • Takes initiative for own learning and development.

  • Maintains a sense of urgency to get the job done Safe

  • Learn AECOM’s Safety Management System (SMS)

  • Work alongside safety personnel in the field and office

  • Learn safety procedures and how to implement

  • Work with safety personal to inclement safety procedures

  • Work alongside crews in the field

  • Maintain safety records

Minimum Requirements

  • The ideal candidate will demonstrate maturity, academic prowess and a desire to learn

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills as the opportunity will include significant interactions with our workforce, client representatives in challenging conditions and situations.

  • Ability to work to deadlines and prioritize workload

  • Respectful, enthusiastic and versatile team member

  • Intermediate Computer Skills, including; Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook & Powerpoint)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in Bachelors Programs in Construction, Business and Environmental Safety Engineering program.
