Position Title Environmental Planner – Wetland Ecologist

Job Summary

AECOM’s Calgary office is currently seeking an intermediate Environmental Planner/Wetland Ecologist to join our team of young and dynamic biophysical professionals within our Environment Business Line.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

Preparing and assisting with proposals

  • Executing wetland assessments using ABWRET and submitting Water Act applications

  • Advising project managers and clients on regulatory requirements associated with both Water Act applications and Code of Practice notifications

  • Field identification of rare plants is considered an asset

  • Participating in field assessments with other disciplines, including wildlife, aquatics, reclamation and remediation

  • Coordinating biological field programs, including vegetation, rare plant surveys, ecological land classification, wetland, wildlife, species at risk, soil classification and/or monitoring surveys

  • Coordinating and preparing environmental approvals and permits required for projects including Federal, Provincial and Municipal permits

  • Preparation of health and safety and quality management plans

  • Working with the team on a wide variety of major infrastructure, mining and oil and gas opportunities

  • Interacting and supporting other offices across Canada

  • Maintain field equipment, calibrate equipment, order rental equipment, and keep inventory of equipment

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree

  • 4+ years of relevant project experience conducting vegetation and wetland assessments

  • Demonstrated experience assessing wetlands using ABWRET and developing Water Act applications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including report writing

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

  • Ability to manage time effectively

  • Willingness to work flexible hours under a variety of conditions

  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word

  • Class 5 driver's license required, First Aid, ATV/UTV/Argo, and other safety courses an asset

  • Experience coordinating biophysical assessments and coordinating regulatory approvals

  • Travel for work is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience assessing wetlands using ABWRET and developing Water Act applications

  • Identify and classify vegetation

  • Project scoping, budget and schedule development

  • Conducting topsoil assessments

  • Reclamation experience
