Job Summary

AECOM is looking for a Commercial Contracts Specialsit to join our calgary office:

Reporting to the Commercial Contracts Manager your responsibilities will include:

  • Deliver contract management services in support of Operational Excellence

  • Provide analytical support to the “Commercial Manager” in support of the portfolio of Contracts managed by AECOM to identify risks, and opportunities.

  • Report inconsistencies within AECOM Contracting strategies to the “Commercial Manager ” and provide analysis or recommendations to remedy such inconsistencies

  • Assist Procurement team, in the formation of Subcontract Agreements to ensure proper flow through of terms and conditions of Owner’s Contract to Third Party Contracts identifying gaps between agreements to minimize subcontracting risks

  • Support the development and implementation of contract management policies and procedures

  • Contribute to a positive culture of contracts pro-activity (as opposed to reactivity) which moves the enterprise from compliance to engagement

  • Provide contract management support to secure contracts

  • Converting data into required commercial exhibits including pricing information related to labor, equipment and other commercial components

  • Support the formulation of winning commercial models, which seek to optimize risk profiles and provide predictable returns to shareholders

  • At the direction of the “Commercial Manager ” participate in all phases of the contract cycle from tender review to contract finalization, ensuring Company bidding and execution strategies are properly reflected in all contractual documents

  • Interact with stakeholders to identify potential business improvement activities

  • Ensure effective, efficient and best practice contract administration and contract compliance

  • Liaise with stakeholders to timely identify, mitigate and manage contracting risks

  • Review of Union Collective Agreements to ensure contractual implementation into new and existing contracts

  • Provide timely and accurate change management, claim management and support the contract close out process

  • In conjunction with Operations and Finance personnel, assist in design and implement measures to improve the financial and service delivery of the contractors

  • Supporting internal ERP team with commercial implementations to company financial systems to ensure outputs will be contractually compliant

  • Develop and provide guidance in implementation of contractual administration aspects of contracts, including development of procedures and advice on managing contract variations, escalation and KPIs

  • Continually identify trends and developments, incorporating new or better techniques of technologies into own internal processes and ensure that this knowledge is shared with others

  • Provide feedback on opportunities to improve commercial procedures and processes

Minimum Requirements

  • 2-3 years’ experience in Commercial, Contracts, Procurement and/or Business Management in the Oil and Gas sector, preferably in maintenance, construction and/or EPCM

  • Some knowledge of Collective Bargaining Agreements would be considered an asset (GPMA, NMA, PLA agreements)

  • Understanding of contractor/subcontractor relationship in an industrial environment

  • Strong contract and commercial skills with demonstrable business acumen and record of achieving superior negotiated outcomes Analytical skills appropriate to step-by-step preparation of tenders and developing and implementing systems and processes, requiring simultaneous ‘eye for detail’ and ‘big picture’ decision making

  • Strong leadership and people management skills

  • Advanced personal presentation and communication styles and methods to establish credibility and communicate information and ideas effectively and appropriately

  • Demonstrates ability to systematically breakdown multi-dimensional problems or processes into easily understood concepts or component parts. Considers a broad range of internal and external factors when solving problems. Generates multiple solutions and leads selection of the best solution

  • Demonstrates the confidence and flexibility to accept, embrace and initiate change and work under pressure and in a rapidly changing environment

Preferred Qualifications

Formal Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Engineering, Business Management or equivalent

Professional Designation

  • MBA, CMA, CA, CGA and/or PMP designation would be considered an asset
