About the Business Line
We address the complete spectrum of energy challenges, including clean and renewable energy, energy efficiency and carbon management, hydropower and dams, thermal, geothermal and wind power generation, and transmission and distribution.
The position requires the pserson appointed to take responsibility for the management, design and supervision of electrical power projects in both the T&D and generation fields. Although primarily an electrical engineering role, most projects require the management of a multi-disciplinary team. In this senior position the encumbent will contribute to the creation, development and management of the business. Responsibilities will include the preparation of bids and proposals, dealing with Clients and managing projects in accordance with the company's quality, safety and environmental procedures. The role will require ‘hands-on’ participation in all aspects of the job, including engineering.
The Power Business Unit uses a seller-doer model for staff at this level, whereby the person leads a bid for new work as the bid manager and if successful in winning the work, then delivers the project as the project manager and/or lead engineer.
In addition to the multi-functional role described above, preference will be given to candidates with a recognised technical specialism in high voltage transmission engineering. Skills of particular interest would be protection and control, high voltage cables, HVDC projects and Electricity Market and Regulation.
•Provide high voltage electrical engineering expertise to a wide range of projects
•Lead the preparation of studies, reports, designs and other deliverables requiring electrical engineering input.
•Manage electrical engineering projects and small multi-disciplinary power projects both in the UK and overseas
•Interface with potential clients
•Carry out site visits/client meetings
•Contribute to financial and commercial assessment of proposals
•Assist in the preparation of project proposals and business development
•Manage and administer projects within the AECOM internal processesand procedures
It is envisaged that the position will develop as the power division continues to grow, business or man management opportunities are likely to emerge and the right person will be able to take advantage of these. The Principal Electrical Engineer is required to proactively work in the business to enable the firm to continue to develop their international reputation in the field. He/she will promote activities and fee-earning project work by delivering excellence in all respects.manage and administer projects within the AECOM procedures, becoming an AECOM certified Project Manager to achieve this.
The post requires at least 10 years experience in high voltage engineering, specifically in high voltage substations or transmission lines or in associated specialist skills such as protection or high voltage cables. Experience in the design of medium and high voltage systems would be an advantage as would experience of managing these projects.
The following experience is expected:
• Experience of working in the UK & international transmission and/or distribution sector
• Experience of medium and high voltage projects including feasibility studies, concept design, detailed design, modeling, site supervision, testing and acceptance. Experience to at least 132kV and preferably 400kV is essential.
• Experience in some of the following would be an advantage; protection and control, high voltage cable systems, HVDC, Electricity Market and Regulation.
