Job Summary

We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer who will be based in our Bristol office.

The role sits within the Plant & High Tech sector of our Process & Automation division which covers projects typically in the, Automotive, Industrial, Rail and Commercial sectors.

The core role will encompass a range of activities including; design calculations, delivery of design reports, writing specifications, production of drawings and other contract documents. Other activities will include technical investigation and research on engineering systems, production of scope documents for agreement with clients, approval of detailed design information and calculations from suppliers and contractors, witnessing and acceptance of testing and commissioning procedures for plant, equipment and systems. As part of AECOM commitment to quality and excellence the successful candidate will be directly responsible to a Senior or Principal Engineer at all times for a minimum of twelve months.

The successful candidate will have had working experience in an organisation where you have been had direct involvement in Mechanical Design within process, manufacturing or industrial environments. This may be as a technician or project engineer within a manufacturing company, contracting company or consultancy, or are a mechanical design engineer who is interested in changing their scope of projects.

The majority of projects in our division require input from several teams; therefore as part of the in-company training you will have the opportunity to be seconded within the division to gain a full appreciation of their capabilities and technical expertise. AECOM is a global company, and while it encourages global mobility across different geographies it is foreseen that this role within Process & Automation will be initially limited to the UK and mainland Europe.

Minimum Requirements

The successful Mechanical Design Engineer will be a professional, ambitious, competent and looking for a long-term challenging role. The skills/qualifications required to be successful for this role are;

• The ability to obtain the necessary information both internally and externally from Clients, Architects, Quantity Surveyors and Design Team Members for the design to proceed.

• A graduate in Mechanical Engineering with a proven track record of design experience.

• Relevant experience in Mechanical Engineering design, including areas such as central plant and BMS/ SCADA specification.

• A track record of having worked on a variety of Mechanical Plant designs on industrial and/or manufacturing projects.

• Experience of developing conceptual designs through to project completion, dealing directly with clients, designers and contractors alike.

• A highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills and ideally a member of a professional institution.

Preferred Qualifications

Any automotive and/or manufacturing experience would be beneficial but not essential.
