AECOM’s UK Environment & Planning team is looking to recruit an EIA professional to join our Plymouth team. In particular, we are looking for an individual with experience in highways and infrastructure projects, though additional experience in other sectors (e.g urban regeneration) would be beneficial. The successful candidate will have a track-record of successful project delivery and client management.
AECOM’s reputation in EIA is second to none and we are involved in some of UK’s most challenging and career defining infrastructure projects. We are looking for someone that will be able to take a key project delivery role within a vibrant and diverse team; helping us to continue to deliver a high quality service to existing clients and to expand our market share in established and new development sectors.
Our UK Environment & Planning business comprises over 200 people across approximately 20 offices. In the south and southwest we have Plymouth, Bristol (*2) and Basingstoke offices. We have over 100 EIA practitioners and large teams of environmental specialists covering the full suite of technical disciplines such as acoustics, air quality, ecology, heritage etc. as well as Town Planners, Sustainability Specialists and experts in health, equalities and climate change.
We provide support to clients at all stages of the development process, including feasibility, optioneering, promotion through planning and project implementation. Our EIA work covers a range of planning regimes, including Town and Country Planning applications, Transport & Works Act Orders and Development Consent Orders.
Our EIA teams often work very closely with our engineering and design colleagues, who are delivering the sort of exciting projects you would expect from a global environmental and engineering consultancy with a reputation for developing and implementing innovative solutions to the world’s most complex challenges.

The successful candidate will be expected to undertake the following illustrative roles and responsibilities:
Assist in the management of and support in the delivery of EIA projects to ensure projects are delivered on time and to the highest standard
Understand and implement project management principles and fully appreciate the need to work within project budgets
Assist in the project management and preparation of project documents including Scoping Reports and related technical studies in accordance with project timescales
Assist in the production of Environmental Statement (ES) Chapters, and Non-Technical Summaries
Analyse data effectively and carry out desk based studies and site visits when required
Participate in team meetings, client briefs and other meetings as and when required
Prioritise project actions and meet commitments on an on-going basis while taking ownership and responsibility for the quality and completion of work
Produce EIA Programmes, Briefing Notes and other AECOM Project Management Tools
Interact with the EIA and wider Planning team to ensure the smooth running of projects
Keep up to date with relevant environmental legislation, policy and guidance
Research issues as part of the EIA process and to provide ideas, solutions and expertise to the EIA team.
Support business development through the production of Expressions of Interest and tenders, and to continuously improve our service offering for our clients
Understand and comply with quality and health & safety requirements and ensure these are addressed throughout a project
Mentor and develop more junior colleagues with the support of the wider EIA and Planning team
Experience in EIA and Environmental Management
Experience in project management of highways EIA projects
Highly motivated and able to work with limited direction
Excellent communication and networking skills
• You will have a good first degree and a second degree in an appropriate environmental discipline.
• The preference is that you have Associate membership or similar with a relevant professional body and demonstrate you are working towards Chartered status.
