Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Safety and Security Manager for immediate employment in the Boston office. Responsible for implementing AECOM and client-specific SH&E programs at project sites for AECOM's Building Construction Business Line. Current work project site is located within the Boston area but future projects may be throughout the New England Region. Position presently reports to the Project Management Oversight EHS Leader.

Primary tasks include:

  • Provide overall SH&E leadership and demonstrate a personal commitment to safety at all times

  • Encourage CM and/or contractors to raise and report safety concerns

  • Cultivate a "Zero Incident" Safety Culture at the worksite

  • Verify CM and or/contractor preparedness for emergencies

  • Act as the initial Incident Commander until relieved

  • Verifying that CM and/or contractors have submitted all required written SH&E Health and Safety Plans (HASPs), programs, plans and/or procedures and that the submittals meet contractual requirements

  • Possessing an in-depth knowledge of the Job Safety Analysis (JSA) process

  • Verifying CM and/or contractor safety training, audits, meetings, medical certifications and substance abuse testing programs are being performed

  • Verifying proper recordkeeping and documentation of all programs

  • Effectively coordinate with the CM's and/or contractor's safety professionals

  • Conduct and record regular and ongoing site audits

  • Verify that the CM and/or contractor corrective actions resulting from deficiencies identified in audit and observational findings are implemented and effective

  • Oversee CM's and/or contractor's site near-misses/incident investigations and verification of completion of preventative and corrective actions

  • Issue "Stop Work" orders whenever it is necessary and appropriate

  • Verify CM's and /or contractor's compliance with contract and specification requirements

  • Oversee implementation of Behavior Based Safety Programs (BBS) {e.g. Management Site Visit, Safety Observation, etc.}

  • Collecting and disseminating CM and/or contractor SH&E related data, both lagging and leading information on a regular and timely basis

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field to include Safety, Engineering or Construction

  • 10+ years of solid construction safety management experience

  • Extensive knowledge of Federal, State and local health and safety regulations, with special emphasis on OSHA 29 CFR 1926

  • Third-party safety-related credentials {Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)}

  • Current OSHA Authorized Construction Trainer (OSHA 500 - Trainer Course for Construction)

  • Current OSHA 29 CFR 1926.65(e)(30(i) Hazardous Waste and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) 40 hour trained

  • First-aid/CPR/AED certified. (American Red Cross or equivalent)

  • Ability to access and work at heights, including the use of stairs, ladders and personal fall arrest systems (PFAS)

  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including respiratory protection

  • Experience in the vertical construction market

  • Proficient collaborator; easily partners with, and gets things done with and through others

  • Ability to cultivate, motivate and inspire all levels of the project team

  • Highly engaged and ability to maintain strong field presence

  • Flexibility to support off shifts as necessary and availability to respond to incidents after work hours

  • Ability to multi-task and balance priorities

  • Highly organized and able to maintain project records

  • Ability to input, run and maintain SH&E software programs

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to mentor and communicate effectively at all levels

  • Good oral and written communication and presentation skills

  • Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required

  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience setting up and operating a EHS program for GE

  • At-risk construction experience highly preferred

  • Knowledge and use of Gensuite or similar SH&E reporting tools a plus
