Our team of environment specialists offers clients expertise in air quality, impact analysis and permitting, environmental health and safety management consulting/due diligence, remediation consulting/engineering and construction/site restoration, specialty and emerging technologies, waste services and water and natural resources.

Job Summary

AECOM are currently looking to recruit an experienced environmental, health and safety (EHS) compliance and due diligence consultant to play a key role in delivering our EHS compliance and due diligence service offering.

You would be expected to lead and support a range of EHS compliance and due diligence consultancy projects, based primarily in the UK but with the potential to support overseas projects as required, delivering high quality reports and presentations to industrial clients, financial and legal clients and government agencies.

Consequently an excellent understanding of industrial EHS compliance issues, ideally gained through several years’ EHS management experience in industry, as a regulator, or at a senior level in consultancy, a thorough working knowledge of EHS management systems, appropriate risk assessment skills, and a comprehensive knowledge of environmental, health and safety legislation is essential.

Core accountabilities will include;

Develop technical solutions to complex problems which require regular use of scientific principles and application of past experience;

To lead specific tasks and objectives by guiding the completion of major programmes typically in a project leadership or director role;

Represent AECOM as the primary technical contact for contracts and projects, and coordinate with other organisations as necessary;

Proactively raise the profile of the EHS compliance and due diligence service to external (Client) and internal (other AECOM teams and sectors) markets;

Proactively embrace, promote and help to consolidate the concept of holistic compliance and due diligence service, incorporating the significant talent and experience available within AECOM;

Being the primary author or lead reviewer on major tender and project documents;

Manage and mentor less senior members of staff;

Continually improve performance standards through expert communication and effective use of the performance management process including being a champion for quality;

Continually develop the skills required to improve and develop further in your chosen areas of speciality and to be seen as a leader in your field within the regional market;

Actively promote the AECOM brand and products and to develop clear communication plans in consultation with key stakeholders and then implement them;

Actively and measurably contribute towards the continuous improvement of our business and products;

Promote and contribute towards ongoing sustainability improvements within our business.

You should be experienced in planning and leading business development initiatives including independently developing clients and working with colleagues in similar and other technical teams to develop long-term, repeat business client relationships and secure requests for compliance and due diligence work, whilst cross-selling AECOM’s complementary services and meeting sales targets and business development objectives.

There will be a requirement for UK travel to engage with our EHS and Remediation team, together with occasional travel abroad, with occasional short-term away from home work as AECOM’s or our Clients’ needs demand.

Minimum Requirements

To be successful in this role we're looking for candidates with the following:

Extensive knowledge of applicable national and European EHS legislation and good practices, including the ability to recognise and cross-apply good practice examples and opportunities.

Ability to quickly assess potential issues and identify whether these may be “material” in the context of the wider due diligence or compliance assessment, typically within 24 hours or less of identification of those issues.

High level of commercial awareness regarding the transactions due diligence process and the ability to recognise appropriate, commercially practicable solutions/recommendations.

Ability to prepare high quality professional reports for senior client audiences

The ability to translate technical information into clearly understandable business issues and financial plans, to support clients’ financial transaction models is required.

Ability to lead and coordinate, or be a key team member in, detailed corporate compliance audits, often involving multiple audit days / team members and working in the presence of the corporate client.

Proven project manager with ability to manage the financial and technical aspects of multi-site due diligence projects, typically coordinating multinational project teams.

Ability to remain abreast of changes in legislation / industry good practice and communicate these to the wider team.

Willingness to work out of the ‘home office’ as required (foreign travel may be required periodically) and ability to work to demanding due diligence timescales.

Effective line manager skills, including the ability to set challenging but achievable objectives, supporting staff career development and strengthening the mid to long term resources of the EHS team.

Ability to engage in technical discussions with clients and present potential solutions relevant to the respective problem, including good listening skills and the ability to discuss potential options, solutions and constraints in a professional and non-conflicting manner.

Commercially and financially aware with proven track record of delivering projects on time and on budget and to high technical and commercial quality standards.

Excellent report writing skills.

Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to produce accurate, succinct reports and professionally present findings and recommendations to the client or facility / plant management team.

Excellent inter-personal skills for interaction with colleagues, clients and regulators.

Excellent time management and organisational skills.

Proven demonstrable experience of meeting deadlines.

Efficient and effective team working skills.

Preferred Qualifications

NEBOSH DIPLOMA would be preferred but is not essential.

Chartered Membership of a recognised and relevant professional organisation is preferable
