Position Title Associate Director - Bridge Engineering

Our Transportation team currently has a vacancy for an Associate Director with experience in the Project and Design Management of bridge design and refurbishment schemes and structures inspections programmes to join their growing Birmingham Structures team. This is a new position and reflects the anticipated changing nature of the work the team is tackling to particularly address the requirements of our HS2 programme and the expansion of the team
The Birmingham Office has an established track record of successfully delivering a broad range of transport related programmes and schemes. Our modern office in Colmore Plaza is in the heart of Birmingham. It has good transport links and together with our Victoria Square office delivers multi-disciplinary services by working alongside our Highways, Rail, Tunnelling, Geotechnical, Environment, Transport Planning and Building Divisions. We are now looking to enhance and grow the team with individuals with a sound technical and/or proven design and programme management backgrounds who share our enthusiasm and determination to support our expanding workload.
As part of the over 500 strong UK wide Bridges and Structures Division the team provides concept, feasibility, preliminary and detailed designs on a wide range of schemes, either as standalone bridge commissions or as part of multidisciplinary major projects. Our current portfolio of works comprises a diverse mix of local, national and international highway and infrastructure improvements. A selection of our current and recent projects include:
• High Speed 2 Phase 2b
• LoHAC North-West. - London Highways Alliance Contract is a long term commission under which AECOM together with FM Conway is responsible for maintaining all Transport for London (TfL) highway structures in the North-West area of London.
• CAFA rail bridge inspection and assessment. Long term commission with bridge sites located on the LNW lines.
• OPSAP inspections and assessments of on station canopies at 86 stations throughout the LNW route.
• Hertfordshire Structures Maintenance Framework
• Network Rail CP5 schemes
• Highways England schemes
• Delivery of structures elements for the Advance Earthworks for the new Nuclear Power Station at Hinkley Point.
Leading to ensure all staff apply an uncompromising approach to Health and Safety – their personal Health and Safety, their colleagues and all other parties and people they interface with at work.
Manage the day to day activities of the entire project team, including resource allocation and utilisation, financial reporting and business development.
Manage the development of designs of Road and/or Rail Bridges and associated structures engineering schemes from feasibility through to detailed design, driving delivery to time and budget and developing the Project management contributions of Engineers, Graduates and Technicians as appropriate.
Leading production of tenders including quality documentation and costings.
Project Management including programme and resource monitoring, quality control, technical management and delivery.
Mentoring Graduate Engineers in their progress to Chartership.
To be successful in this role you will;
Have a relevant degree and with either be a Chartered Engineer or Chartered Manager or will be working towards such an accreditation and have very strongly proven project and design management experience of driving delivering to quality, time and budget and successfully interfacing with a demanding Client body.
Experience in road and/or rail projects. Experience in both is not essential but would be advantageous.
Experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams.
Be fully familiar with contemporary practices in bridge inspection, assessment and design and be able to lead teams of graduate and senior engineers in such projects.
Have been the individual responsible for direct contact with a variety of clients of both national and local authorities, together with major contractors.
Be able to manage staff and project Health and Safety responsibilities including compliance with CDM legislation.
Have a current clean driving license and be willing to travel throughout the UK to visit sites, and to work away from home for reasonable periods to suit project demands.
