Position Title Associate Civil Engineer - Infrastructure

Job Summary

AECOM's Birmingham office has an immediate requirement for an Associate Civil Engineer to join a team and to lead the team that delivers creative solutions for civil engineering infrastructure projects for industry, government, commercial and leisure sectors. As Associate Engineer you will undertake the design and project management on various civil infrastructure related projects and assist in developing the Company’s business.

Reporting to the Director, this role will provide technical design and to ensure projects are delivered to programme quality and budget. You will also need to develop internal team relationships and provide support to junior staff in order to develop their individual skills and to encourage their personal development.

Key to this role is the ability to provide a client focused service which results in on-going satisfaction and repeat business.

Minimum Requirements

  • Civil Engineering degree (BSc) or similar required

  • To be able to produce and have knowledge in the design of highways, access roads and infrastructure of projects including the design of road geometry, pavements, drainage and sustainable drainage systems, earthworks modelling and underground services.

  • To have experience in the preparation of Contract Drawings and Specifications and the negotiation of Section 38, 278, 104 and 106 Agreements.

  • Familiar with Design Standards such as Sewers for Adoption, Manual for Streets, Design Manual for Roads & Bridges and relevant British or European Standards.

  • Detailed knowledge of road design using 3D computer modelling packages such as Civils 3D, PDS and/or Bentley MX.

  • Good computer aided design skills (AutoCAD)

  • Detailed knowledge of drainage design including piped systems, SuDS based systems familiar with storage design and computer programmes such as MicroDrainage.

  • Awareness of highway and drainage law.

  • Working on own initiative with limited supervision including client-fronting.

  • Liaison with Clients, local authorities and representatives from external organisations.

  • Good communications skills both oral and written.

  • Willingness to make occasional overseas trips.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Significant experience in UK development related infrastructure engineering; likely to be from a private/consultancy background.
