We are currently recruiting for a Bridge Manager to join our well-established and collaborative team working on the A168/A19 Dishforth to Tyne Tunnel DBFO Contract, based at the DBFO Company’s offices in Billingham, Teesside. This is a permanent full-time position.
The team provides technical advice and support to the DBFO Company for the inspection and maintenance of approximately 200 highway structures, including multi-span viaducts, bridges, culverts, sign gantries and retaining structures.
AECOM provide experienced staff on secondment to the routine operation and maintenance (ROM) contractor to manage and undertake the maintenance inspections. The Bridge Manager will report directly to the ROM Project Manager.
As a Bridge Manager you will have the following daily responsibilities:
• Carry out the role of Supervising Engineer (as defined in BD 63/07) for all highway structure maintenance inspections carried out on the A19 DBFO.
• Plan and implement the rolling programme of highway structure maintenance inspections on the A19 DBFO.
• Report regularly on progress and attend regular meetings.
• Plan and undertake principal, general and special inspections of highway structures.
• Prepare detailed inspection and condition reports within Highways England’s Structures Management Information System (SMIS).
• Recommend assessment, maintenance and repair activities for existing structures.
• Carry out risk assessments and produce safe work plans.
• Management of abnormal load movements.
• Assist with incident response.
• Contribute to the strong collaborative working ethos within the A19 team.
The following will be required for this role:
A relevant degree or HND in civil engineering or related discipline.
Strong background in design, construction or maintenance of highway structures.
Ability to manage a small team
Working knowledge of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges specifically BD 63/07 Inspection of Highway Structures.
Knowledge of materials testing techniques and interpretation of test results.
Experience delivering to quality, time and budget.
A proactive approach to health and safety with a sound knowledge of current legislation.
Basic knowledge of traffic management practices.
A current UK driving licence.
Whilst not essential, the following skills would be desirable:
CSCS Card holder.
Training and experience in confined space access and operation of mobile elevated work platforms (MEWPs) and mobile scaffold towers.
Certification to Senior Inspector in accordance with the Bridge Inspector Certification Scheme (NHSS31).
Network Rail Personal Track Safety (PTS) certification.
Support will be provided in progressing towards CEng or IEng qualifications through an appropriate professional institution.
The level of competence required for Senior Inspector as described in Highways England’s Interim Advice Note (IAN) 192/16 (Structures Inspector Competencies and Certification) including programming groups of inspections, planning inspections and performing inspections of all types. You must be willing to work towards formal certification.
Knowledge of bridge management systems, specifically a working knowledge of Highways England’s Structures Management Information System (SMIS).
