Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a Mechanical Engineer III for immediate employment in a client facility near Bellingham, Washington. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects.

Incumbent Responsibilities:

  • Produce engineering documents and designs for various industry related facilities

  • Plan and develop segments of engineering projects with unique or controversial problems that have an important effect on major organization programs, which involves exploration of subject area, definition of scope and selection of problems for investigation, and development of novel concepts and approaches

  • Prepare specifications, data sheets, RFQs, and technical bid summaries for mechanical equipment and piping components such as pumps, separators, storage tanks, compressors, heat exchangers, fired heaters, flares, piping, valves, fittings, control valves, and safety valves

  • Review vendor's drawing data and communicate detailed design issues effectively with suppliers, clients, and other engineering disciplines

  • Track equipment through fabrication, installation, and start-up and provide support to field staff as required to support specific project requirements

  • Assist in the development of scope, budget and schedule requirements

  • Assist in the coordination between engineering disciplines, participating in project planning activities, and support cost and schedule updates

  • The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed above.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or appropriate engineering discipline from a 4 year accredited college or university


  • Minimum of 2 years of mechanical engineering experience in the refining / petrochemical industry or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, skills, knowledge, abilities and experience.

  • Experience on multiple small capex value projects averaging at or around $50,000 USD each.

  • Previous work experience on full life cycle refining projects lasting less than 3 months.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 years of on site, hands-on, experience at a client refining facility

  • FE (EIT) certification or higher

Additional Information:

  • Must obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)

  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test

  • This position does not include sponsorship for United States work authorization

  • Relocation and per diem support are not available for this position
