Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a creative, highly talented Mechanical Engineer V, for employment at our client facility near Bellingham, WA .

  • Performs engineering calculations, prepares specifications, performs analyses, performs testing, issues reports and maintains related data.

  • Maintains liaison with design and drafting groups.

  • Prepares, reviews and approves drawings as required.

  • Advises the Supervising Discipline Engineer about status of assignment(s) with respect to schedule, budgets, delays and adverse problems.

  • Ensures quality, quantity and completeness of the assigned engineering tasks.

  • Plans and schedules engineering efforts associated with assigned project.

  • Maintains timely and accurate oral and written technical reports regarding assigned engineering activities.

  • Keeps proper engineering files and records.

  • Develops understanding of industry codes and standards.

  • Understands and uses computer software and applications associated with engineering assignments.

  • Continually upgrades technical knowledge and capabilities and pursues additional coursework and training.

  • Complies with company’s safety awareness program, office and/or field safety policies.

  • Develops an understanding of the role of each functional area within the company.

  • Conforms to company core values.

  • Acts with integrity in all elements of responsibility.

  • Expresses ideas clearly and listens effectively to the ideas of others.

  • Supports alignment of customer and company objectives.

  • Performs other related engineering work as required.

Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or appropriate engineering discipline from a 4 year accredited college or university or demonstrated equivalent


  • Minimum of 6 years of related engineering experience in the refining, gas processing, and/or petrochemical process plant industry or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, skills, knowledge, abilities and experience

  • Experience on multiple small capex value projects averaging at or around $50,000 USD each.

  • Previous work experience on full life cycle refining projects lasting less than 3 months.

  • Experience with equipment specification and codes (API 610, 660, 661, ASME B31.3, Sec VIII, TEMA)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with a BP Refinery

  • 2 years experience working on-site at a refining facility

  • EIT certification

  • Proficiency with any of the following software: Solidworks Simulation, PVElite, HTRI, CAEPipe, NozzlePro, FEPipe or similar engineering software.

  • Procurement/Fabrication QA experience

Additional Information:

  • Must obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential Card (TWIC)

  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test

  • This position does not include sponsorship for United States work authorization

  • Relocation and per diem support are not available for this position
