Job Summary

AECOM is currently recruiting for an experienced specialist Civil or Structural Maritime Engineer to join us at Technical Director level as part of our well-established and experienced Ports & Marine team in our London or Basingstoke offices.

Our global team of some 500+ maritime specialists have the technical skills and experience to address any form of maritime project. The work of the team frequently involves the assessment of existing structures and design measures to ensure the durability of concrete and steel structures in aggressive environments.

As a Technical Director, your responsibilities will include:

  • Working as the design and/or planning lead on various maritime projects globally, including container terminals, mining/bulk, oil/gas, marinas, ports and harbours.

  • Managing or Directing projects, as well as ensuring technical excellence.

  • Working with clients to define their requirements and discuss progress.

  • Liaising with colleagues to lead; advise and contribute on civil and structural design.

  • Occasional short to medium term site visits (UK and Overseas) may also be necessary depending on project requirements.

  • Working with (and where appropriate influencing the development of) relevant codes, legislations and standards such as BS6349, PIANC, Eurocodes and OCIMF.

  • Contributing to Business Development and leading the preparation of bids and tenders.

  • Supporting junior engineers and providing mentorship to new members of staff.

Minimum Requirements

As the successful candidate, the following minimum requirements will be required for this role:

  • Educated to degree level, or equivalent, in Civil or Structural Engineering.

  • Chartered Engineer status with either the ICE or IStructE.

  • You will also bring significant experience in managing civil/structural/infrastructure projects in the maritime sector.

  • Excellent working knowledge of Maritime design and planning, including applicable codes and standards.

  • Experience in the design and inspection of maritime structures such as breakwaters, quay walls, lock and dock gates, fender systems, paving, etc.

  • You will also have a strong track record in strategically improving the technical capabilities of the team.

  • Educated to degree level, or equivalent, in Civil or Structural Engineering
