Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Senior Systems Engineer for employment in the Baltimore, MD office.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Participate in planning, design, construction, maintenance or project management of Transit Rail Vehicle Project

  • Design infrastructure assets including signals, train stops, track circuits, train detection systems, point operation and detection systems, traction (electrical current) return arrangements, vital interlocking systems, SCADA/telemetry systems, and active level crossings

  • Perform testing and commissioning of Transit Vehicles, signaling systems and associated supporting systems

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering studies

  • 5+ years of experience in Train Control systems,HVAC systems, Fire Detection systems, Communication systems, Brake systems, Passenger Information and Entertainment system, and CCTV System

  • Familiarity with different phases of the project life cycle i.e. Bid phase, Design phase, receiving customer approval for final design

  • Ability to manage relations with customer, suppliers, and stake holders

  • Ability to evaluate technical offers from suppliers and manage supplier compliance

  • Understand detailed, technical descriptive design documents

  • Ability to prepare routine test and vehicle type test specifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree

  • 15+ years of relevant work experience with a demonstrated history of increasing responsibilities and a minimum of eight years managing an engineering team

  • Professional Engineer certified

  • Knowledge of the CFR, AREMA and IEEE and how they pertain to train control

  • Experience with cost estimating

Understanding of the following attributes of a signaling system:

  • Train Control Systems

  • Working knowledge or direct design and implementation of advanced train control systems such as CBTC, PTC or ERTMS

  • Code and Aspect Signal Charts

  • Power Supplies and Distribution

  • Wayside signaling including wayside/cab, switch machines, track circuits and cross bonding, And / or axle counters

  • At grade crossings (constant and fixed warning systems) and traffic preemption

  • Vital relay and microprocessor based systems

  • Non vital relay or PLC applications

  • Local Control Panels and/or Computer-Based Operator Workstations

  • Cabling Distribution
