Position Title NEPA Transportation/Environmental Planner

Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a talented and motivated Transportation/Environmental Planner to join our Baltimore Planning Team. This role is an integral part of project and study teams focused primarily on high speed rail environmental studies. Additionally, this role will also handle other surface transportation (roadway, transit, bicycle, aviation, and pedestrian ) environmental and planning studies for clients such as federal, state, and local area DOT’s.

The NEPA Transportation/Environmental Planner will develop and document plans and reports for infrastructure/planning projects; applying knowledge of federal, state and local environmental regulations to infrastructure/planning projects.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare environmental impact statements and perform assessments for transportation facilities

  • Prepare and review National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation and technical reports

  • Evaluate transportation investments for agencies and clients

  • Prepare written summary documentation for public and agency presentation

  • Interact with peer professionals regarding potential project definitions and impacts

  • Coordinate with support staff as needed to address issues identified on projects

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a planning or related field of study required

  • 5+ years of experience as an environmental or transportation planner or related field.

  • Project experience working with federal and/or state and or local DOTs and governments.

  • Good organizational skills; detail oriented;

  • Familiar with FRA, FTA and/or FHWA NEPA policies and regulations.

  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Working knowledge of GIS and Adobe Creative Suite

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in a planning related field of study is preferred

  • Work proficiently Publisher, Adobe Creative Suite, Google Earth, Microsoft Project Manager, WebEx and other conferencing software, and databases is preferred

  • AICP or applicable to skill sets preferred

  • Self-starter

  • Willing to take on new challenges and operate outside of their comfort zone
