Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer for employment in the Baltimore, MD office.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing, reviewing, and endorsing engineering changes relating to Rolling Stock introduction, operation, maintenance, and upgrade

  • Ability to review documentation. Make changes accordingly including risk and scope of works

  • Ensure all technical problems and issues related to Rolling Stock are addressed correctly and efficient plans are put in place to rectify

  • Development of reference designs for Mechanical Systems to be incorporated into the design baseline

  • Key support will be required in maintenance of passenger rolling stock to ensure state of good repair; including supporting new procurement new and overhauled rolling stock (locomotives and passenger cars)

  • Provide oversight on the progress of overhauls and support their acceptance and recommissioning into the MARC rolling stock fleet

  • Follow on activities will include support of the warranty administration for the new and overhauled rolling stock (locomotives and passenger cars)

  • Provide staff augmentation to key client and Maryland Transit Administration

  • provide mechanical engineering services to rolling stock

  • Support legacy rolling stock rail fleets to ensure compliance with applicable regulations (FRA, ADA, EPA) and industry practice

  • Leading the review of customer technical specifications in order to establish the train level requirements and the subsequent development of the principle design architectures and concepts to meet these requirements

  • Ensuring key decisions regarding architecture, concepts and system technologies solutions are made in a timely manner to ensure bid and project timescales can be achieved

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering or other related field required

  • 10 years minimum experience.

  • Knowledgeable of regulatory and industry standards including FRA, ADA, EPA, APTA, AWS, ASME,

  • Knowledge of Rolling Stock and their systems

  • Experienced in coordinating and managing rolling stock maintenance and subcontractors

  • Experience or sound understanding of defining, structuring and developing a rolling stock concept and design

  • Experience of converting the customer's explicit and implicit technical and functional requirements into technical/ functional specifications to be used by design teams

  • Professional Engineering License

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters of Science, Mechanical Engineering
