Job Summary

AECOM is currently seeking an experienced Communications Engineer to join our team for several transit/rail systems engineering projects in Baltimore, MD. This position is responsible for applying standard engineering practices and techniques on portions of larger projects. The engineer will be responsible for the design and development of systems drawings and documentation under the direction of a senior engineer and will be responsible for construction management of small to medium communications systems projects.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparing electrical and equipment room plans, panel board layouts, schedules, riser diagrams, wiring connection diagrams

  • Preparing duct bank designs, cable tray systems, conduit and cable layouts and routing, ground grid plans / details and equipment layout / details

  • Preparing network diagrams for various systems, including CCTV, Access Control, Intrusion Detection, data and telephone

  • Preparing clear, complete, and accurate drawings from rough or detailed sketches

  • Coordinating all electrical and systems design work with other design disciplines (architectural, mechanical, site, plumbing)

  • Preparing project documentation, including specifications and drawings, leading to advertised RFPs for Systems Contracts

  • Assisting with client proposal evaluations and recommendations for award

  • Assisting with exchange of correspondence, submittals and RFI’s on active construction contracts

  • Researching new projects to provide solutions based on best engineering practices and procedures

  • Providing Resident Engineering services on small to medium sized systems engineering projects to include submittal reviews, tracking contractor adherence to schedule and budget, tracking contractor field performance, answering RFIs, preparing contract change requests, conducting progress meeting, and addressing technical and contractual concerns

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or another closely related engineering or engineering technology field

  • 5+ years of experience in the design and development of electrical and/or communications systems

  • Experience in project or construction management related to communications systems

  • Experience should include design of conduit routing systems for transportation and commercial facilities, and systems design experience and construction management of systems projects including but not limited to Control Centers, SCADA, CCTV, Access Control and Intrusion Detection, SONET, OTN, low voltage installations, and electrical

  • Electrical system integration design experience

  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated strong performance working on teams in a collaborative environment

  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in personal performance

  • Strong ability to decipher technical information

  • Working knowledge of industry practices including safety and quality management systems

  • Understanding of contract documents and specifications and the ability to prepare both

Preferred Qualifications

  • Licensed PE in Maryland

  • Experience in Transit Industry

  • Registration as EIT required with ability to obtain PE within 2 years
