Position Title Hazardous Materials Specialist
Afghanistan - Kandahar
AECOM is currently supporting the US Government with Environmental Response Teams in Afghanistan. This is a United States Corps of Engineers (USACE) Task Order with personnel deployed at Bagram, Kandahar, and other U.S. military installations. Services provided under this Task Order include response to environmental issues facing the U.S. military, including solid waste recycling, responding to fuel spills, and providing Subject Matter Expertise and other specialized support for various Environmental Corrective Actions in theatre.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Participate in emergency response to spills and incidents, hazardous materials management, environmental remediation, and corrective action efforts at the deployed locations
Support technical application of hazardous materials management, spill response, environmental corrective actions, and environmental remediation/protection concepts
Liaison with client in regards to environmental issues and corrective actions
Other duties that may arise
This is a deployed assignment in Afghanistan. Austere living conditions and travel from primary base of operations to Forward Operating Locations is required. Candidate must be physically and mentally fit for duty in Afghanistan.
High School Diploma / Associates Degree in HSE or other related scientific discipline
5+ years of experience with hazardous materials management, emergency spill response, and environmental remediation
Must be able to live and work in an austere environments under harsh working conditions
Must be fluent in English and have strong verbal and writing communication skills
Qualified applicants who are offered this position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test and medical screening
OSHA HAZWOPER training
DOT and RCRA training
Previous hazardous materials management experience in austere environments
Previous experience supporting U.S. military hazardous materials management and environmental efforts
Previous experience working within the CENTCOM Area of Responsibility
Forklift and other MHE experience
