Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a talented Senior Accountant to join our Canada Indirect Tax team located in Austin, TX. The objective of our team is to ensure the Canadian operations are in compliance with Canadian Federal, Provincial and foreign commodity tax reporting, and provide support to project management in regards to Canadian indirect taxes for projects within Canada and the United States. The successful candidate will have strong analytical and problem solving skills, a track record for producing high quality work while meeting deadlines, ability to work with other teams, and research tax, accounting and process-related issues which come up. Strong interpersonal skills, resourcefulness, appreciation for a collaborative work environment and an enthusiasm for learning are essential.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Analyze general ledger transactions to ensure these are reported appropriately in the monthly returns

  • Prepare/review and file Canadian sales and excise tax returns, withholding taxes and election forms on a timely basis

  • Resolve tax notices through written and oral communications, and reconcile these to the general ledger

  • Gather, analyze and summarize tax information to assist with audits

  • Assist with analyzing tax rules and exposures relating to specific projects

  • Assist with identifying and implementing process improvements to increase efficiency, quality and compliance with tax and SOX requirements

  • Prepare monthly reconciliations of the general ledger tax accounts to the tax register for multiple Canadian entities, investigate and resolve discrepancies, and prepare journal entries

  • Other projects and duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or related field

  • 5+ years of experience with accounting or financial analysis

  • Experience with indirect tax preferred (including sales tax, VAT, withholding tax)

  • Strong working knowledge of Excel

  • Ability to be resourceful and be able to follow up and investigate accounting and tax compliance issues with little guidance

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and manage complex tasks and deadlines

  • Experience working in a public company ERP environment

  • Strong team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA or CPA Candidate preferred

  • Speaking/reading fluency in English/French, or ability to work with online translation tools

  • Working knowledge of Oracle, including Discoverer reports
