Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated GIS Intern for an opportunity in the Austin, Texas office. AECOM is searching for candidates that have the ability to be a role model, be client-focused, be impactful and be decisive. If this role evolves to full-time employee, entry-level technical new hires are eligible to participate in AECOM’s Graduate Development Program (GDP), a 2-year development experience designed to support assimilation into the organization, help with technical development planning toward licensure (or other early technical milestones), and with creating a foundation of knowledge necessary for future career success.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and associated software to produce, display, and analyze geospatial data

  • Develop and maintain geodatabases, reports, and cartographic products

  • Create, organize, manipulate, and retrieve GIS data for reporting, analysis, and presentation purposes

  • Perform quality assurance of GIS data and associated cartographic products

  • Use defined concepts, practices and procedures to extract and provide GIS data to clients

  • GIS desktop mapping and GPS-enabled field work

  • Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member

Minimum Requirements

  • Currently working towards an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Geography or related field

  • Basic understanding of fundamentals in mapping, cartography, and geospatial data management with proven experience utilizing the ESRI ArcGIS platform

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Strong focus on quality and attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

  • GIS experience in an Intern role preferred

  • A college level student with no more than one academic year remaining before earning a degree preferred
