Job Summary

The Role

We are looking for a talented Senior Environmental Scientist to join our leading team of experts and assist in the development of AECOM’s ecological consulting business in the NZ market.

This role will involve freshwater and terrestrial ecological assessments and fauna survey experience as well as the opportunity to grow our client base and develop our specialist ecological practice offering.

Day to day, you will be responsible for:

  • Development of scopes for freshwater and terrestrial assessment and fauna survey at a preliminary and detailed level.

  • Oversee and support the ecological site assessments undertaken by junior staff.

  • Evaluation of ecological data, comparison with relevant standards or reference guidelines and interpretation of results.

  • Development and implementation of remedial strategies.

  • Provision of ecological advice in relation to statutory requirements.

  • Preparation and review of technical reporting.

  • Preparation of Ecological Monitoring and Management Plans.

  • Obtain new and repeat business through maintaining and developing internal and external client relationships.

Minimum Requirements

About You

We are seeking a self-motivated individual with a strong client focus who is able to demonstrate:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualification – BSc or Msc in relevant discipline i.e. : ecology, freshwater biology, environmental science with ecology specialisation

  • 6- 10 years’ experience in Environmental Science (Ecology)

  • Demonstrated experience in standard field investigation techniques - aquatic ecology and fauna

  • Demonstrated experience in environmental data collation, interpretation and reporting

  • Knowledge of New Zealand’s ecological context with emphasis on freshwater and terrestrial environments and the ability to apply this knowledge to determine environmental status, assessment of environmental effects and appropriate mitigation strategies

  • Experienced as a member of multi-disciplinary project teams
