Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Entry Level Transportation Planner for employment in the Atlanta, GA office. AECOM is searching for candidates that have the ability to be a role model, be client-focused, be impactful and be decisive. In this role, entry-level technical new hires are eligible to participate in AECOM’s Graduate Development Program (GDP), a 2-year development experience designed to support assimilation into the organization, help with technical development planning toward licensure (or other early technical milestones), and with creating a foundation of knowledge necessary for future career success.

The incumbent can look forward to projects including long range transportation plans, strategic investment and prioritization plans, feasibility and concept studies, alternative analysis and environmental analysis projects, and other urban and regional planning projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Gather, manipulate, synthesize and present data, including socio-economic, land use/ FTA, transportation metrics, traffic and travel demand, and other; analyze and propose interpretations and conclusions/. In particular, experience with data compilation and analysis from the US Census (including LEHD data) and regional travel demand models; ability to present analysis in tabular and mapping formats.

  • Prepare internal and client-facing documents and deliverables in MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite and GIS, including written work products, charts and tables, and map graphics. In particular, experience with On the Map and generating infographics and other graphics-based presentations of technical analyses in easy-to-understand formats.

  • Produce high quality work products with minimal direction, using practices of detailed checking of work and quality control

  • Research and apply developments in applicable local, state and federal public policy and industry best practices to project analysis and recommendations.

  • Participate in collaborative meetings and work sessions with clients, public agencies, and general public/stakeholders.

  • Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Urban Planning with a focus on Transportation, Transportation Planning, Transportation and Public Policy or similar field

  • 0-2 years’ demonstrated progressively responsible experience on transportation planning, transit planning, bicycle and pedestrian traffic planning, land use / transit-oriented development projects and studies

  • Familiarity with data sources and analysis concepts in transportation planning

  • Proficiency in MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite tools, with facility with GIS

  • Clear and succinct writing style; confident oral-communication and presentation skills

  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment and balance roles on multiple projects

  • Availability to participate in evening or out-of-town client meetings, workshops, and presentations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working toward a Master’s Degree in Urban Planning with a focus on Transportation, Transportation Planning, Transportation and Public Policy or similar field

  • AICP Certification preferred or achievable within 1 year

  • Clear and succinct writing style; confident oral-communication and presentation skillsAbility to function in a fast-paced environment and balance roles on multiple projects

  • Interest in achieving AECOM project management certification within 3-4 years
