Job Summary

AECOM’s Environment and Planning Group includes a Water Science Team consisting of water quality scientists, hydromorphologists, hydrologists and ecologists. The water environment team specialises in natural water systems and offers a wide range of water science, hydrology and environmental services to private and public sector clients. This includes water and sediment quality surveys and studies, hydromorphological and hydroecological surveys and assessment, river, lake, wetland and terrestrial ecological surveys, ecosystem services assessment, ecosystem rehabilitation, catchment management services, WFD appraisals and impact assessments of new infrastructure developments.

AECOM’s busy water environment team is seeking to recruit a Water Scientist to assist with a range of survey and assessment projects.

• Deriving catchment improvements for the River Rede, to improve water quality and ecological health of the river.

• Undertaking desk studies, consultations, water quality monitoring, and site surveys to assess the impact of major new infrastructure, industrial, residential and commercial developments including WFD assessments and Environmental Permitting.

• Developing water quality monitoring programmes and pollution prevention strategies for the construction of major infrastructure projects (e.g. Glyn Rhonwy Pumped Storage Scheme and A1 Dishforth to Barton Highway Improvement Scheme) .

The appropriate level of technical expertise is required in order that the Job / Project Accountabilities listed below can be carried out to the necessary standard:

• EIA (e.g. highway, rail, utilities pipelines, power generation, wind farms, and residential other commercial developments);

• SuDS advice in respect to ensuring appropriate water quality treatment trains and optimising SuDS performance;

• Applications for Environmental Permits for flood risk activities and discharges, as well as Water Abstraction / Impoundment Licences;

• Establishing strong working relationships with other internal teams, particularly within AECOM’s Environment and Water divisions;

• Statutory and non-statutory stakeholder engagement and management;
