We provide professional services in areas such as aviation, transit, freight rail, highways and bridges, planning, and ports and marine. Our global network of top-tier specialists delivers comprehensive services over the full life cycle of a project to benefit clients in government and private industries.
Our Altrincham based Strategic Highways team currently has vacancies for a Senior Highway Engineer to support our growth which is underpinned by major highway project opportunities locally, nationally and internationally.
The successful candidate will take responsibility in all aspects of highway design to work on local, national and international schemes. We require people who have gained team management skills who will provide the necessary highways technical experience and mentoring to other team members. The successful candidates will join AECOM’s established highways business which continues to expand following several major project wins.
Significant schemes which have been delivered by our experienced highways business include the A6 to Manchester Airport Relief Road, Manchester Metrolink Extensions 3A and 3B, New Tyne Crossing and Qatar Contract 2.
We are currently engaged on a number of interesting and challenging projects both locally and nationally and there are opportunities for the candidates to be involved in a range of work. Our current projects in the UK include the £270m Smart Motorways Programme (SMP) Package 5 (M62 J10-12 & M6 J21a-26), HS2, Manchester Metrolink Trafford Park extension, A494/A55/A494 Deeside Corridor (KS2) and the Menai Crossing (KS2). The services offered to our clients include the full range and scope of highways work from inception to completion across all the key discipline areas. This includes feasibility, development and planning, DCO process, preliminary design, detailed design and site supervision.
Provide technical input, technical leadership and project management across a range of specialisms in the field of highway engineering
Reporting to the Directors you will undertake a variety of tasks providing as an individual or through team effort, a range of design and written deliverables.
Show technical leadership and through experience, mentor and guide the skills of others in computer based applications and tasks including use of software such as MX, WinDES, and the Microsoft Office Suite of programmes including MSProject.
Undertake Project activities in line with Company Policy, including technical and commercial aspects, as appropriate to your grade.
Take a lead role on projects within particular skill area – e.g. drainage team leader, pavement design leader, geometric layout
Plan, lead and undertake site visits, as required.
Plan and attend meetings – internal and external, as required.
Liaison with sub-consultants and external parties, as required.
Participate as a team member on a number of levels, including; office discipline and project.
Be proactive and contribute to a safer work environment
To be successful in this role we would like to hear from candidates with the following:
Experience of working in a multidisciplinary environment, operating across a matrix of projects.
Experience of preparing written work
Experience of preparing for and attending meetings with clients and/or statutory consultees.
Able to offer experience and proficiency in two or more of the key areas;
project management or asset management
pavement design and refurbishment
signs and road markings,
Management of design and delivery of highway maintenance schemes
A degree qualified civil engineer with strong experience, preferably working in a highways design environment in either new build or maintenance.
working towards Chartered Engineer status (MICE and or MCIHT)
