Job Summary

Savannah River Remediation, an LLC of AECOM, is seeking a Fire Protection Specialist to be based in our Aiken, SC location.

Implements the company’s Fire Inspection Program; a comprehensive Life Safety, Fire Prevention and Fire Hazard Inspection Program. Serves to eliminate fire hazards whenever possible so that the fire potential is greatly reduced. For hazards that cannot be eliminated, focus is on lessening the potential of reaching high risk/hazard level. Ensures acceptable life safety levels (e.g. keeping the means of egress unobstructed, sufficiently lit, and clearly identified).


  • Under general supervision, performs fire inspections. Implements fire protection programs and procedures in an attempt to reduce and/or eliminate personal injury and/or property due to fire, explosion or related identified hazards. May contribute to procedure/practice development and/or edits.

  • Actively ensures employee and facility safety in accordance with all OSHA, NFPA, Life Safety Code, DOE Orders, and company policies and procedures. Maintains a working knowledge of the NFPA fire inspection manual.

  • Participates with others in inspecting, testing and maintaining fire protection systems and equipment to ensure that in an emergency they operate and perform to standards. Assists in the investigation of any fire to determine origin, cause, and what, if any, breakdown in the fire protection plans and procedures may have occurred.

  • Verifies that fire systems, equipment, and procedures are in place, properly maintained and up to date, usable/operable.

  • Surveys or otherwise identifies fire and safety hazards (trained in hazard recognition), recommends corrective action and ensures corrections are completed properly. Initiates, reviews, communicates, evaluates, arranges, and/or assists in correction of deficiencies observed.

  • Works within the company corrective action database to track and update the status of fire audit findings and concerns.

  • Verifies compliance by communicating with personnel/groups on administrative requirements such as determination of combustible fuel loading, control of transient and fixed combustibles, transient combustible permitting systems, control of ignition sources, fire watches and patrols, facility inspection, hot work, handling of flammable and combustible liquids/gases, fire protection system impairments and compensatory actions.

  • Coordinates, assists, and/or contributes to work completed on new fire systems or modification of existing systems as needed. .

  • Responsible for reviewing/approving procedures, Hot Work Permits, technical work documents and design modifications involving fire protection and life safety systems for need, completeness, effect, adequacy, identification and initiation of changes to procedures or firefighting pre-plan and on other similar documents.

  • Participates in fire fighter and first aid/CPR training

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • To remain in the position, must be able to demonstrate and apply knowledge of fire protection system orders and policies and retain training qualifications as required by management.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and 2+ years of experience in industrial fire protection inspection, prevention or managing fire protection program elements OR;

  • Associates degree and 4+ years of experience as describe above OR;

  • High School Diploma or GED and 6+ years of experience as described above.

  • Due to the nature of the work, candidate must be a US Citizen.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline

  • Previous experience at Savannah River Site or another government facility with similar hazards
