Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a 3rd shift Battery Changer I in Aberdeen, MD! Typical work hours are Monday - Friday, 11:00pm – 7:30am; hours may vary based on business demand.

This position uses specially designed equipment to safely remove discharged batteries from Material Handling Equipment (MHE) and replace fully charged batteries in same.

Follow established procedures and protocols to recharge batteries so that an active fleet of equipment is available to the associates assigned to use this equipment. Perform a variety of tasks designed to maintain the battery charging equipment or to secure the safety of the charging area.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain and/or replace batteries for Material Handling Equipment.

  • As assigned, provide assistance or training to others and or coordinate activities.

  • Maintain Hazardous Material awareness to ensure knowledge regarding handling and moving hazardous materials. Complete daily inspection sheet.

  • Inspect batteries for water level, vent caps, connectors, terminal covers and disconnect blocks (36Vs only) before they are placed into a Material Handling Equipment vehicle.

  • Keep no less than 40 batteries (20 of each type, 24V & 36V) inspected and/or watered in advance to facilitate the next battery change.

  • Repair batteries per the established repair guidelines.

  • Appropriately complete battery change log sheet per established procedures.

  • Complete daily work logs with detailed information and maintenance reports on a timely basis.

  • Anticipate and solve problems.

  • Adhere to business code of conduct and other Company policies and protocols.

  • Maintain professional and courteous customer relations including client, vendor, and internal team at all times.

  • Maintain safety work practices as defined by the Company.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision or oversight, while still maintaining a high level of quality and safety.

  • Ability to identify and wear appropriate PPE per application.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  1. High school graduate or demonstrated equivalent.

  2. This is an entry-level position with no previous work experience.

  3. Ability to operate forklifts.

  • This position may require various shifts, weekends, and alternative work schedules.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires frequent moving of materials weighing from 10-43 pounds. Other materials may be handled manually and infrequently (i.e. small barrels of cleaning supplies) which may weigh up to 50.

  • Requires sitting and standing for extended periods of time and frequent bending, twisting, reaching and turning.

  • Requires the ability to communicate with others on the telephone and in one‑on‑one or group discussions, meetings and presentations.

  • May be required to work from heights, ladders and elevated platforms.

  • Requires the use of various hand tools.

  • Requires keyboard skills and visual activity associated with the use of keyboards and terminals.

  • Some tasks require repetitive wrist movements.

Special Requirements:

  • Must wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves and other PPE as needed.

  • Must be able to respond to emergency alarms.

  • Requires the ability to operate forklifts, power and hand material moving equipment.

  • Coping with demands (stresses) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.

Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles or dust; high voltage; toxic or caustic chemicals.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

  • May be required to work in confined, restricted and/or hot/cold areas.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Technical certification or specialized training preferred.

  2. Familiarity with Rite Aid Distribution Center and/or warehouse operations is a plus.

  3. Strong mechanical background.

  4. Ability to perform preventive maintenance and basic repairs.

  5. Experience working in a warehouse environment.

  6. Customer Service experience.

  7. Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work in a team environment.

  8. Must be willing and able to be certified in various forklift operations.

  9. Demonstrated skill with hand and power tools

  10. Basic computer skills.

  • Must be willing to work overtime when required. May be required to work holidays and weekends.
